If Ural made a watch …

It eventually settles down after a couple hours of use. Really doesn't like starting up.... I manually wound it until I could feel the mainspring "clutch" (until full) but unless I run it for a couple of hours it runs like crap. Not sure if that all also applies to Urals....

In general my Russian/Soviet watches have been pretty good for what they are (not getting much wrist time these days of course) but knowing other collectors, they are either good...or they are not. My old Poljot P3133 chronometers all run very well.

If you thought the hypewatch couldnt get any stupider they do this: New MoonSwatch Moonshine FAQ

crazy inflated prices and hype starting to go down.
solution is to release the exact same watch with a gold* seconds hand, assembled during the full moon only (oh look, fake scarcity)

*only gold plated, they couldn't even afford to do it in full gold.

I'm losing a bit of respect for Omega for allowing this.

What's going on with the S? At first I thought it was on the second hand and they missed the middle but it spills onto the minute hand. Is it in the crystal? A stupid watermark on the photo?

Edit:
I agree. Omega is quickly circling the drain as they follow this path. If they wanted to go with woo woo wankery, they should have put it on the real speedmaster not the plastic ones (although I hate the yellow gold second hand they could apply the same story to an "upgrade" on the speedy).

On an Omega crystal there is a Ω at the centre on the crystal in the same spot (at least the hesalite). On the MoonSwatch they did an S for Swatch as a nod to this.

Not sure when it started, but mine (with original crystals) going back as far as 1969 have it. You usually need a loop or a super closeup like the photo to see it.

Thanks. It should be vertical in that case. Having the S sloped off towards 1:30 looks sloppy (unless they did it intentionally for some reason).

You may be able to just spin the crystal with your fingers and put the S where ever you want .

She's also trying to sell an engagement ring/wedding bad for more than 50% of appraised value. Either she doesn't understand what things sell for or she is looking for a bigger sucker.

Why not both?

Engagement ring is $3750 for an appraised value of 3950 GBP.

wow that was quick. I wonder what the story behind both of those are...
husband watch collector caught cheating in the UK?

For your Friday viewing pleasure....

Tudor.jpg

Tudor Oysterdate from 1989, linen dial, white gold bezel. The black specs all over it is black paint (over spray), I must have been wearing it while spray painting something black... I figure I will just wait until they all wear off of maybe hit it with some polywatch at some point. For now it is character.

There one of life’s injustices, says Tudor so 2,500 . If it’s says Rolex , about the same watch $6000 .

Maybe where Swatch/Omega got the idea for the MoonSwatch. The Tudor/Rolex.... just saying.

Older Tudors like this were really Rolex cases with ETA movements (decorated Tudor of course), one funny difference is most Rolexes say nothing on the outside of the case back, Tudors of this era say "Original Oyster Case By Rolex" (Rolex says nothing, Tudor says Rolex), many also had the Rolex crown on the crown. The brand was at one time intended to provide an "affordable" alternative to Rolex (my expectation is they could make way more cases than movements way back, so someone in marketing got an idea....). Since the relaunch in the NA (give or take) they have been getting more and more of their own identity.

What I like most about these, I see Rolex like BMW---owning one comes with lots of baggage. Tudor is a Rolex but without the baggage!

It was just by chance shopping the used market for my wife a decade or so ago but we even have a His and Hers set (although Hers is on the original bracelet, and no overspray).

Hate to drag down the thread with another budget watch, but I stopped at the Citizen store today in Milton, per @crankcall 's recommendation, and couldn't resist a Fugu at a very fair price:

Not much selection of automatics in the store, but they beat the best online price I could find by almost $100 when you factor shipping, so I did okay. The jeweller in the outlet mall seems to have closed, and the only other watch shop just had junk costume watches, Armani, Michael Kors, Diesel and the like.

Just need to figure out some strap options now, as silicone isn't my favourite. Not many custom options with curved end links, but I'm thinking maybe a shark mesh bracelet might work. Suggestions welcome...
