The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

No red light camera. Cop #1 approved report and passed it to traffic services to follow up with driver. If I hear nothing further, I will respond differently next time. Tbh, they were lucky I was in my car. In my wife's vehicle, the driver would have been a hood ornament. That would likely have ended their driving permanently. Big tall vehicles with bug squishy tires (factory size) doesn't slow as quickly.

While camera didn't capture light driver could see due to angle of intersection, it clearly caught my green and a red for the road the runner was on (although in the opposite direction).

These are the videos that I sent to Peel.

Is there an online portal to submit video clips?
Do you submit a written report as well with your contact information for them to contact you?

Barrie police have a decent website. Submit my personal info, date, time and location of incident, description of offending vehicle, description of incident and any pics/video you have. Yrp has something similar. Iirc, yrp uses it to send warning letters but not tickets. As a positive, if a driver gets pulled over and there are warning letters on file hopefully the cop that has them shows no mercy (and if there are enough warning letters hopefully they go well down the value-added route).

In short, if you don't have a plate or if plate doesn't match vehicle description it goes straight in the garbage.

My "4k" dash cam (saves 4k video but 99.99999% chance it has a 1080p sensor) didn't produce a usable plate as the vehicle entered the intersection. As they approached my bumper, camera got what I needed.

Thank you - this is good to know!

Most police forces have a similar reporting portal. Caledon used to have something called "Road Watch" that was specifically designed for reporting and I'll bet that anyone who has ridden in places like Forks of the credit will remember seeing the signs, but they folded the programme several years back.

I recall reading somewhere the Road Watch program in Caledon was discontinued. Is it still in effect?

I have to nominate myself in this category. On Dec 13th on my way back from skiing at Blue I needed to take evasive action to avoid a collision that would have been my fault. Had a brain fart and started across an uncontrolled intersection on 89 and didn't see the car in the eastbound right lane. My evasive action avoided the collision, but resulted in a departure from the roadway. No damage to me or the car, but I had to wait a couple of hours for the tow to arrive and drag my sorry ass out of the ditch. No charges either, so far.

Mixed bag there. Obviously you screwed up but then you made some good decisions to avoid damage or injury and took responsibility. Most bad drivers go to the grave blaming others. Glad you are OK.

We all makes mistakes. In the aftermath it depends on the violator saying "I learned something' or "Whew, i got away with it again." Too many say the latter.

Trans Empire truck driving school. Presumably student driver with an instructor in the cab as well.

Paid zero attention to the speed limit on highway 35 and was blowing past everyone who was bothering to do the speed limit. Lucky the green hornets weren’t out on a blitz as they’ll pull over commercial trucks for that in that area.

Then got on the 401 and parked in the middle lane doing just barely over 100 and was apparently oblivious to vehicles passing on both sides.

And no headlights on at dusk either.

It’s no wonder the quality of new trainees in this industry is so bad.

Maybe. That's an interesting question. I don't know if they bothered configuring for people going the wrong direction.

They wouldn't be in the camera frame when they triggered the sensors by (guessing) 100m.

The Mrs just came in from walking the pup and mentioned a crash at the corner. Yawn. The intersection needs a video feed. Our little piece of Brampton in the heart of Etobicoke.

Put up a webcam and create your own version of "Friant Roulette."
