The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I am guessing paperwork changes. Like hospital skiing you if injury is work related so they can document for wsib.
The nasty is everywhere. I knew a guy that had a fast food place in Whitby. On Monday AM he had an employee go down the basement for supplies and the guy supposedly threw his back out, going on compensation.

The owner found out later the guy had a serious skiing crash on the weekend. Employee gets paid during recovery and the owner gets higher premiums.

I've only been hurt badly enough at work to require treatment once. I was clear that it was not a work related injury. Employer had an open account with chiro/physio, go as much as you need. Fixed. No reaming on wsib premiums. Cheapest and easiest way forward for everybody. First time I went to chiro, "is your right shoulder normally 3" lower than your left". Umm. No. I can't guarantee they were level but I know they weren't that jacked up.

I've only been to a chiropractor once and while laying face down on the bed he recited the "One leg shorter than the other" mantra. Then I noticed he was wearing one blue sock and one brown sock. He couldn't even dress himself.

I had a service call to a chiropractic college somewhere up Bayview Avenue and never saw so many pocket protectors and brush cuts in my life. Nothing personal about either.

Use to play hockey with a chiro. Told me they had classes in customer retention at college, and not to bother going to one if it was at all avoidable.

I've been to two in my life. Both highly recommended by people I trust. Both solved my issue in a reasonably short timeframe. I am strongly opposed to the path many are on where you go routinely for your whole life. If we aren't making progress, I will find someone that can.

Tow truck failed to slow for traffic on 400SB this morning. Absolutely hammered a lady. Ornge took her to hospital. Turns out she has minor injuries. Lucky.

Does the IIHS test rear impacts on North American cars? I can't find any info on rear impact testing for the Rogue.

If I was in the market for a kiddie hauling small SUV, I think I'd cross the Rogue off my list after seeing those pics...

Most of the impact tests have limited speed differential (80 km/h). Highway slowdowns are blinking red light level of danger. In this crash the rogue got trapped between a heavy truck in front and a tow truck behind that was obviously closing fast. No passenger vehicle does well when sandwiched with a ton of energy. Afaik, there is no testing for sandwiched vehicles (as they all suck).

On a somewhat related note, NHTSA requires automated emergency braking from 62 mph by 2030 or so. Manufacturers are going to court to push back. Current AEB is effective up to 30 mph or so max and even then it's shady. At 62 mph, the distance you need to look ahead and process without screwing up exceeds the capabilities of the available systems by a lot. If it goes ahead I expect a lot of crashes caused by AEB freaking out when there is no real threat and slamming on the brakes causing people to get rear-ended. Do you get a 172 ticket for brake checking when the car thought it was a good idea and you couldn't stop it? Blinking lights and sounds are good but stay the f away from the brakes. Stupid.

EDIT:
Here's a rogue in a rear end crash test. Very very different outcome than the picture (not sandwiched, impact weight much lower (I think 3000 lbs when a tow truck will be more than double that) and probably lower speed differential).

Anything Nissan is off my shopping list for many other reasons. I wouldnt be concerned about this crash though.

Here's video of the crash. I don't think truck touched the brakes. Hit at 101 km/h. Bad luck for the car being stopped in the shadow of the bridge. Trucker should still have realized that bad things were coming well before impact.

Edit:
Different version showing driver texting and driving. F that guy. Cancel his license forever.

My buddy had his 2 month old Highlander scrapped due to the same type of crash. F that guy.

In other news...

Definitely bad pedestrian. Without doing some math, I can't really comment on the driver (assuming they stopped).
Math or not...that car was going faster than 30-40kph in a residential zone...

Assuming the car stopped...I hope the pedestrian got charged for that.

Bad pedestrian. Jumped like a frightened yearling deer from behind a moving car.

From what I can see I don't think that the driver was speeding. The queued up cars make me think that a school is just to the right of the image. Crappy security system if there's no timestamp on the video but, then again, maybe it was cropped out for copyright reasons? The houses look a bit familiar, but everything up in the M/N section and around Williams Parkway and Hwy 410 looks pretty much the same. I wish there was something in the video to allow me to figure out the location.

Upgrade from the normal "ebike" DUI mobile. Went very poorly for the driver though. What are the odds they can scrape together enough to pay for the towtruck charges? The next obstacle will be the 10K in fines they need to try to fight. Their DUI mobile driving days are over.
