The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Maybe cops should start throwing the 172 tickets for that maneuver every time they see it. It is one of the specifically listed circumstances where it can be applied. There may be no vehicles in brampton after a few weeks and they'd need to use the international centre as an impound lot.

" the driver executes the left turn immediately before or after the system shows only a circular green indication in both directions and in a manner that indicates an intention to complete or attempt to complete the left turn before the vehicle facing the opposite direction is able to proceed straight through the intersection in response to the circular green indication facing that vehicle."
Pretty sure lagging through an advanced green is exempt. In Toronto that's an expected situation, same as how the three to five vehicles in the intersection turn left on the yellow/red. When I was a kid, second one in got a ticket, whether there was room or not.

It isn't exempt in the law (or at least I can't find anywhere that is written). It may never be enforced though.

There is no legal exemption. There is, however, the simple fact that the practice is so widespread that there simply aren't enough police to enforce it. I expect that someone will eventually twig to it and the red light cameras will be adjusted accordingly, to take advantage of the possible income.

Last weekend was a banner 48 hrs. in the Tow Truck Turf War.

I often wonder at the thought processes of some people. I was just driving up the 410 northbound, headed for Steeles. As usual the right lane is moving faster than everything else, so that's where I am. As I'm coming up on Steeles, at a rather fast clip, I can see some guy waaaay behind me get into that ridiculously long merge lane from Courtney Park and put the hammer down. He timed it perfectly to be alongside me when his lane ran out. My mere presence seemed to anger him greatly, especially when I didn't blindly swerve into the next lane to the left to allow His Majesty passage.

He went up the breakdown lane, cut across the gore, then slowed to maybe 40 Kmh in front of the car that was immediately in front of me, to demonstrate his displeasure. Then, when that car continued north, he swerved and brake-checked me on the Steeles ramp. I went around him, got into the second right turn lane, and went straight through the green, then moved to the left-most lane. He took the rightmost right turn lane and almost put himself into the side of a transport while trying to get across to me again. He pulled alongside me at Tomken and took his seat belt off but never looked at me, nor made a move to get out of his car.

Everything that "happened to" this guy was 100% self inflicted. I didn't speed up or slow down. I made no conscious effort to block him. I was just there.

Beginning to think that I need to buy a Tesla, because all the most interesting stuff seems to happen beside me, where I don't have cameras.

You've lived in Brampton long enough... nothing should surprise or shock you.

Can't really say that I was surprised, but I do struggle to try and understand the thought processes involved.

- Score on own goal.
- "It was HIS fault!"

Hopefully the parents get some legal advice before they tell their story to the cops. 14 yo took their car, crashed into someone on the 401 in Mississauga and the family car burned to a crisp as kid and friend ran away. At that point you pretty much have to stick your kid with a theft charge to try to keep insurance on your side. This is going to be expensive. Car is garbage, friends family will probably sue you for injuring their dirtbag kid and I'm not sure if insurance company of vehicle they hit tries to sue if driver was uninsured.

Not necessarily. There's been a couple cases of dependants taking parent's car without permission.. crashing and causing injuries.. parent didn't press theft charges.. but is still were not held liable.
Those cases were adult dependants.. this is a minor... not sure what difference that makes.
I do think it's a 'reverse onus' type of situation... but the bar to hold the parent liable is pretty high.
If the kid had a history of taking the vehicle and they continued to leave it accessible to the kid.. etc... maybe.. But a one-off incident or first time caught... not likely.

Saw this one twit with a modified windshield washer,it was set up to give anyone behind a free car wash.
Thinking that it eventually caught up to him disappointing that i didn't get to see the beat down tho.
Bringing water balloons to a gun fight would clean up the gene pool a bit.

This is a new one on me. Getting pushed out of my lane by someone coming in the other direction swerving into it to pass a cop who had someone pulled over.
