Closing a major highway for stupidity should come with an automatic $1M bill submitted to your insurance company. The economic impact of bunging up hundreds of thousands of vehicles far exceeds that.
I 100% agree with this.

EDIT:
This was close to a disaster. They punted the bridge over about 75% of its width.

The MTO has very strict penalties for extending a lane closure by any contractors (think 50k for the first 15min and 5k/min each minute afterwards).

The mechanism exists, but it’s to punish delayed contractors for keeping in line…not idiots.

Maybe they should enforce it as you say…

My buddy was on the QEW at the time and saw the smoke and debris after he heard a big bang. Dump truck had its bucket up.

Yup... apparently being a drunk negligent operator is not a punishable offence in Ontario.

*edit - He did get a year in jail. I thought it was knocked down more.
It would have been more, but they botched the timing of the impairment test.

Dump truck on dump truck on dump truck crash on the Gardiner. One dead. Reopened pretty fast considering there was a death.

When something like that happens you might as well turn around and get a hotel room. Glad I was out of there at noon.

What choice did they have considering all the other east west roads are closed for construction

Eglinton is the exception. It’s just plain closed forever.

I hope they add a computer game portion to testing soon. Put people in stressful and dangerous situations and see how they behave. If you crash or make a stupid choice like cutting across a bull nose you fail. For obvious reasons they can't make the stressful situations on the road. It must be scary enough being an examiner without intentionally triggering scenarios where the drivers can crash.
Do it like a m/c test. Examiner is in a following car with a radio. He could make a killing on the YouTube videos.

I go through there frequently and didn’t recall the dogleg.

He could just as easily buy one of those reflective covers and be over and done with.

I know if I did that...I'd probably forget to put the towel back on when I was getting off the 407.
Pulling over into the bullnose was a special kind of dumb. The right shoulder of a ramp is a reasonably safe place. The bullnose with traffic passing you on both sides with little room is awful.

The cameras pick up plates behind tinted covers better than the human eye does. When we can barely read them, the camera still has a pretty clear view. Having one dark enough that the cameras won't see means it's essentially black to the human eye. There was a time when the cameras couldn't pick up vehicles that were travelling in excess of 180 Kmh (information received from a friend who worked on the tech side there), but that issue was fixed.

There's an idiot in our neighbourhood that drives with what is effectively a blacked out rear plate. I don't understand how cops don't pull people like that over, and fine them for obstruction of plate.

I remember my second speeding ticket in Minesing. OPP officer gave me a speeding ticket, but told me to take off the CLEAR plate covers from both front and rear plates.

That was 15+ years ago.

Most dealer plate covers are illegal, because they partially obscure the plate. Completely clear covers are legal. One of the few "targeted sweeps" that I would agree with, would be to collect every tinted cover that they can. Those things make it difficult for regular folks to hold people accountable for their actions if they cause an accident, then run.

Another truck on FOTC. Again, penalties need to be far far higher. Blindly ignoring all signage and not giving up until you are hopelessly stuck and blocking the entire road should be grounds to start licensing again. This isn't a single momentary lapse.

Google street view shows the warning sign at Hurontario but I didn't see one at the Belfountain end.

There's one on Mississauga Rd east of Belfountain, just west of Woodland Ct, and another one at Winston Churchill & Bush St. There's also a smaller one on FOTC Rd just south of where it splits into FOTC and Mississauga again, but at that point you don't have any good options.
