The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

The sad part is that families are ending up sleeping in vehicles while Trudeau sends billions of our tax dollars overseas.
The carbon tax is also an "I can't afford to fix my brakes or steering" tax. If Ontario brought in annual safety inspections there would be a lot of people in deep trouble.

It's great to go eco everything but first we have to make sure every income level can afford it. Too many Marie Antoinettes telling the poor if they haven't bread to eat they should eat cake,

Driving around today I noticed a possible cause of some traffic delays. It seems there are no rules for traffic control in construction zones.

You can be driving along with your view obscured by a tall vehicle and suddenly you find yourself forty feet from a hole and a bunch of orange cone. No time to zipper in. As everyone tries to merge it becomes a jam.

G1 driver driving by them self, already suspended 😵 gets suspended again.

I would support a 14 day lock-up of the driver as well as the vehicle in this instance. At least he won't be driving this vehicle again for a couple of weeks. Any bets on how many more times he will be caught driving while under the new extended suspension period?

There's a pedestrian/bicycle crossing that I regularly pass, where more and more cars and trucks have begun to give up their right of way to stop and allow the cyclists to cross.
I don't, and neither do most people, but it's getting more common. I also see this stopping as eventually being very dangerous to the cyclists. At one point a couple of years ago, I wanted to make sure that I wasn't wrong on the issue, and checked that the bicycle lane had stop signs, which it did. There is also a flashing light thing that pedestrians can activate. Anyways, today I came around the corner and the pickup stopped the other way started honking and waving as I went through. Should I write the city and tell them to put in a sign to stop for pedestrians AND cyclists? Somebody's going to get killed.

There are 580 pages of rules, but it might take some time to find the section you want. You can report violations to the appropriate governing body based on who maintains the road (province, region, municipality)

S T O P: Slight Tap On Pedal. There's a stop sign I obey several times a week and one day I'm going to get rear ended because it's unusual but there is a sign. No one else seems to care.

One day a cyclist is going to blast through just as a newcomer to the area trucks on through.

A few years back a truck was caught as unsafe in a blitz on the 400. A replacement truck was sent to carry on with the move. It was taken off the road as well.
Also, quite frequently, someone who comes to pick up another driver who has been caught with a suspended license, insurance, etc. will be nailed for the same offence. It's like they actually expect to show up and not have their documentation checked, before being allowed to take the other driver.

Here's a big part of the problem. As we all know, Drivetest centers have very different probability of passing. This article gives the numbers. Brampton drivetest has 60% pass rate, Lindsay has 74%. From my experience, more than half of the drivers testing in lindsay are from brampton.

Aurora used to be the go-to for people from Brampton, many many years ago. This is nothing new, under the sun, but good to see that it's actually in the news.

How about a Toronto Driver's License?

Includes:

A rush hour merge from Weston Road northbound to 401 eastbound.

A morning rush hour merge from 401 eastbound to 400 northbound.

Proper use of acceleration lane

Parking between two yellow lines in a parking lot

Locate and get into a parking spot at Costco on a weekend (Timed event)

There is a really simple solution. Thou shall only be able to book at the testing centre closest to your registered address. Cleans up most of this stupidity. Forces testing centres to scale properly for the tests locals require. Lots of lost jobs in lindsay (no big loss as they were built on something approaching fraud), lots more jobs in brampton. Testing on the roads and traffic conditions you are actually likely to experience regularly.

What about people who have to navigate a 400 series highway on a daily basis but their local test location isn't close to one?
