Supplements?

I get most of my supps from canadianprotein. I use their 100% isolate, waxy maize, glutamine, creapure creatine monohydrate (I've tried others but found the monohydrate works just as good and is much cheaper), BCAA's, fish oils, glucosamine.

As well I take White Flood as my preworkout (I've tried many and prefer this one), take a good multi-vit/mineral, and lots of vit C.
The rest is all quality foods and my diet is spot on.

I feel like supplement threads are useless without pics. All this talk about people who swear by products or certain supps, but your body would be the proof of its efficacy. I'm curious to see who's at the actual level that requires all of this stuff.

Here is what is working for me.

A little background:
On July 1st I weighed in at a whopping 362lbs. I had been smoke free for 9 months at that point and knew I had to tackle the next health hurdle. I wanted to ride a sport bike so bad but could not fit on them :(

Fast foward to now. I am sitting at 320lbs. I have lost over 20 inches and gained almost 25lbs in lean muscle. I fit on a sport bike comfortably and went and bought a 2006 600RR and sold the cruiser to my dad.

I take:
Protien shake and a Banana for breakfast
lean mass builder
Fat matabolizer
C4 pre-workout (Pineapple. Take 1/2 a dose for the first time. It's like speed :)
Vitafreat Multi Vit.
isolate for after a workout
BCAA's about 1/2 way in to a work out. Just sip them and enjoy the fuzzy feeling they give you.

I do cardio only 4 night and strentgh/cardio 2 nights with 1 night off. We do what is called "overtraining and active recovery.

Example:(all weights DO NOT include the olympic bars 40lbs)
Bench press 140lbs to failure.; Failure is when you can not physicaly move the bar anymore :)
Recovery is crunches to failure.
30 second rest and add 2 10lb plates to the bar and repeat.
We do build and strip sets ie. 140.150.160.150.140 with a rest set between each one.

Going to failure means that the muscle never gets adjusted to the weight. As you get stronger it takes longer to fail. The last set at 140 on my example is brutal. You feel like a wuss grunting and fighting to bang out 5-8 reps lol.

We always switch it up to keep the muscles guessing. This is last saturdays work out. You do 10 reps of the main and then 10 reps of the rest set and then repeat 10 times so you end up doing 100 reps. The weight never changes.

Bench press 140lbs X100-main
Crunches X100-rest
Standing curls 90lbs X100-main
Push ups X100-rest
Standing overhead press 90lbs X100-main
Leg lifts X100-rest
Preacher Curls 70lbs X100-main
Plank to failure
Dumbbell flys 35lbs/arm X100-main
Leg lifts X100

It pays off. I got on my trainers 2013 1199 penagale last night and I fit well.

You just started excercising/working out in July?
overtraining and active recovery??

Gay and doesn't tell the full story. You can be ripped and not in great shape or strong. You want proof, join me in a workout then you bet the visual and the fitness level

I agree with sonny.... Not true for all cases but definately some. You could see a guy who isnt all ripped up and in great shape but strong as an ox and actually in great shape even though he doesnt have the typical "bodybuilder" body.
Then there are some dudes who look supr fit and actually are pussies and just have great genetics.

True. I'm ripped. Doesn't mean I'm the toughest guy in the world or I have the craziest work out routine. Means I've busted my ass and I maintain it. Not everyone will be at the level to require any of that stuff. The best thing you could do is talk to a real nutritionist or a proper trainer.

My only example and no it's not a show off thing. Right now I'm 166 lbs. I can do three sets with this weight. By no means is it my max and by no means does it make me the toughest guy alive. (just means I'm stronger than sonny :lmao: ) My diet including supplements is good and I take the gym seriously and it took a lot of effort to get where I am.

P.s. Limey, while I applaud your efforts that routine is nuts and you need to be careful. It's hard but a gradual drop is better and easier on you.

Leg press is a joke. Do squats unless you physically can't. You ain't stronger

I do squats too. A lot of hate in recent years for the leg press. You may be an exception but a lot of guys who talk **** at the gym can't do it. Just sayin. Point was supplements don't make you he-man over night and being ripped doesn't either.

as always I invite anyone to meet me and train I love challenges and learning ....so no **** talking . supplements help you recover and keep going that's all I think. Only roids, TRT or GH work fast and easy

Nothing wrong with the leg press, I like it after a round of ATG squats or in substitute when the back isn't feeling all that great but I would never use it as a measure of strength.

I see lots of guys throw on 700 - 1000lbs and then do these little mini range of motion presses while they also cheat and put their hands on their knees to give them that little extra push. Yet, they probably couldnt even do 10 clean reps of ATG Squats with 225lbs.

Pretty much me. My mesomorph buddy who works out three times a week and plays 5 hours of squash a week just about died when I suggested we run up and down Fort Henry hill. 10 runs in and he was literally laying on his back in a pool of sweat, where I did another two runs and called it a day because I was up there alone. Then we went and had a beer... thus why I am not ripped, lol

FYI I am in the "leg presses are for weenies" crowd but I do them sometimes if my back isn't feeling great... I don't have flexible hips and that puts a lot of stress on my lower back. When I do them, I bring my thighs right back until they touch my chest, and I situate my feet so that I can get hamstring and glute involvement. Most people I see use them put their feet low and use a small range of motion even with low weight.

It always goes back to what the individual's goals are. I think a lot of dudes get into lifting because they want an impressive physique but then they get somewhat derailed and roped into ego-stroking and then start focusing more on lifting heavy weight than taking the right steps to improve their body composition by training and dieting for results.

I mean, unless you are competing in something (powerlifting, strongman, combat sports, crossfit even, other sports etc...) what is the point of pursuing maximum strength amd not optimal body composition & health?

I do the leg press but only as a secondary option. Squats are king! And no you dont have to have you're *** touch the floor... recent reports showed this dos not need to happen, just good form, *** parralel to the floor and you're good. The feeling from a good round of squats trumps everything!

So many different options for programs and what works, it gets overwhelming! I am in that stage where I dont know what I is best. Any good sites with good programs to liven up my workouts a bit?
