Sometimes people use my driveway to access a field by my house....

Sounds to me like you need a moat!

Dig a trench. Wide and deep fun for kids not for cars/ trucks. Could try stones or natural barrier(trees, brush water) Either way call the cops unless there is an easement(doubt if there is a road in front) they are trespassing.
 
How do you feel about upgrading your property and having a nice fancy fence with your family crest on it?

It's unlikely the township would have granted severance of a property without road access. It's also unlikely the OP would have to grant an easement if she didn't sever the property. It's possible the driveway is shared but the OP would know that I should think.

The empty field has road front, but they go up my driveway anyway. I'm not telling the kids not to play in it. I bought my property knowing full well the adjacent field would remain vacant for decades and that it would be great for the kids to play in. Dog versus truck?? Dogs are kind of expensive to be testing out whether that would help.
 
Not sure it gets any simpler than a swinging metal gate.

I guess signs would be a start though.
 
If you're really concerned for your childrens' safety, you'll put up a barrier regardless of the cost. Build yourself a fence to save money. You can rent the equipment at Home Depot to dig the holes. Mix some concrete, put in some fence posts, and nail some 2x4s across. Won't look pretty, but it will do the trick!
 
Drive t bar posts in along ths side of your driveway every 4 feet or so very easy to do cheap and will do serious damage to any vehicle that chooses to drive over them. Most places that sell them will lend you the driver for free.

Your expected use of property that doesn't belong to you doesn't matter. You're putting your kids at risk by letting them play there.
 
^^^ gotta agree. The only thing you have a right to is to stop people going up your drive.
