unreal to see these guys go down so hard.

his style was certainly aggressive and wild but its always needed to some degree in racing.

sad day for motorcycling in general.

R.I.P Marco Simoncelli - Super Sic, 20 January 1987 – 23 October 2011. Always sad when we lose someone so young at 24. But he was one of the most promising young stars of MotoGP and he died doing what he loved. I can't even imagine what his Father and the rest of of family are going through. Very sad day today. He will always be remembered for the human being he was.

They performed CPR for 45-50min and he was pronounced dead when they stopped. I'm willing to bet he died on contact and they performed CPR "just in case".

Depending on the local medical requirements. I know my aunt is a nurse and if she happens acrossed an accident and starts performing CPR, she is not permitted to stop until a doctor or coroner arrives and pronounces the patient dead. Even if she is positive the person is already gone.

Even if you suspect or "know" someone is gone, you don't stop till you don't have a choice. A few years ago at the Gap, I was one of those doing what we could for an acquaintance. We were not about to stop even though we all suspected it was in vain. We took turns until the ambulance arrived and confirmed more than half an hour after the incident.

There have been some reports that he wore a helmet one size bigger, due to the size of his hair. Any confirmation of that from a reputable source?

The whole thing is just so sickening, and I can't help but think it could have been avoided. What a shame.

If you didn't see the race on Sunday, and this tragic loss, Speed has it scheduled for Tues 12, 1 & 2 PM 125, Moto2 (which is better racing), and Moto GP. Just PVR "Motorcycle Racing" and you'll get them all. Moto2 is much better racing as even Colin Edward's said pre-race interview. Forty bikes, all CBR600 engines, only difference is frame/plastics. Watching forty bikes as opposed to seventeen (MotoGP) aim for the first corner is quite exciting. You'll also get to see the next Valentino Rossi (Mark Marquez). Last race he went from last place (due to a penalty) to third! It was unbelievable to watch!

*Although they have the MotoGP scheduled, whether or not they'll show it I'm sure they're debating right now.

I rode yesterday, but I couldn't get this tragedy out of my mind. Every Hog rider I ran into didn't even know, or care. I guess Harley riders don't follow MotoGP. I assumed all riders watched motorcycle racing.

Don't be silly. There is no debate. Why would they show all 1.5 laps of MotoGP which ends in a riders death?

I can't believe the ignorance of some people.

Found this pic on #58's FB page:

It's beautiful

No need to get your panties in a knot man. I remember TSN playing Greg Moore's death over and over. And it was much more horrific a crash. It's their footage to show, or not show. Turns out they chose to show the Australian GP. Good choice!

@Chimera Nice pics! Keep them coming.

It would be nice to see the aerial footage to understand what happened prior to the crash. I don't understand what would cause that. Not that we need closure like a relative but if you're a fan I'm sure you're saying WTF (and not enjoying it as others have implied).
I've been watching MotoGP for 10 years and enjoyed the 125's and 250's as well (sometimes more). Marco raced full-blast all of the time. He could have had a few podiums but chose to give it all he got and ended up crashing a few times instead. I may be wrong but it seemed that he wasn't big on patience or the "big picture". He had a number of riders ****** off because of the way he rode but that's what you would expect from competitors that wish they had a bit more of that style. If Rossi had respect for him he must have been pretty good.
Rest in peace.
