This kind of news allways hurts. His talents on the track were coming into there own, however it was what he did off it that should also be remembered. I was at Indy this past August and heard a story of how Marco had visited a childrens cancer hospital in France. He had taken the time to interact with the kids by getting on the floor and playing with them. Who does that any more......I became a fan of 58 from that moment on. Rest well my friend, I'll miss you.
Just watched the vid in slo mo on youtube.Helmet did come off for sure. This will also be very tough on Colin and Vali.It looked like Marco was caught between his own bike and the impact from Colin and Vali.
I don't think his hair had anything to do with it. The helmet would be sized to fit. To me it looks like when it's hit by Rossi's bike, it got torn off. With that much impact it's either the helmet comes off or....
RIP to him such a sad day!!!!!
I've met him numerous times at Indy over the last few years, very kind and happy each time!
I'm so very saddened by this! The racing world lost another great one, as brash as he was, he made it exciting! I am in such shock!
Such a horrible accident to take a rising star out at the end of the season.
You can download the race if you want to see what happened.....
Don't know where people are getting the bit where Rossi hit him?
Collin hits him on his right side because he has nowhere to go as Marco crosses the track from the outside of the turn across Collin/Rossis path, then runs him over. His Helmet stays on until the TEC3 Yamaha rolls over him.
Rossi never comes in contact with Marco during the collision.
No that that is important here anyway.
No blame in any of this. It was an unavoidable accident and I'm sure all the people involved feel terrible about it....
