Shooting in Connecticut

On 4Chan Facebook:

"America had 11,000 gun-related homicides in 2008. Japan had 11.
Does anyone know if they play video games in Japan?"

Serbia's firearm ownership rate is close to twice as high as Canada's and they have a 25% lower homicide rate. Read into that what you will

But the militia was the first to engage and slow down the invaders until regular army came in and did their thing. Otherwise, the victory would have been a lot more expensive in terms of lives and equipment.

well... that and the fact air support was given a time line hours after the beach landing started and by the time anybody radioed over to say hey, what up? the battle was over.

Only one of Kennedy's fabulous blunders, only to be totally duped again with the missle crisis. Dumbest president until GW showed up.

Now back to topic at hand.

Was the rifle everybody has thier panties in a ball about even used in the shooting? NO it was in his trunk. Nut cases will get access to guns somehow.

I wonder who statistic reporting do you have confidence in , Serbia's or Japan's?

“If it’s crazy to call for putting police and armed security in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy,” National Rifle Association Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre.

Sad.Just sad.

Serbia's firearm ownership rates came from the South Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons. Canada's came from Geneva Graduate Institute of International Studies. "Small Arms Survey 2007". The homicide rates are from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, so I don't expect to see much bias.

Why? Don't you think schools with a jail like atmosphere would increase the likelihood of producing nice balanced adults? :p

We do it here in Ontario. Only we call them liason officers. At least one in just about ever highschool after the Jordan Manners shooting.

I believe Kennedy, on the advice from his aides called off US Air Force support to prevent international opinion to sway too much against the US and to attempt plausible deniability of direct US government involvement.

I thought they found a shotgun in the trunk. As far from what I've read and heard, authorities say the shooter used a .223 SAW on the victims.

There was no shotgun. Original reports stated that the bushmaster 223 (not a saw) was in the trunk. Later reports state he used it.

On April 17, the Cuban-exile invasion force, known as Brigade 2506, landed at beaches along the Bay of Pigs and immediately came under heavy fire. Cuban planes strafed the invaders, sank two escort ships, and destroyed half of the exile's air support. Bad weather hampered the ground force, which had to work with soggy equipment and insufficient ammunition.
[h=4]The Counterattack[/h] Over the next 24 hours, Castro ordered roughly 20,000 troops to advance toward the beach, and the Cuban air force continued to control the skies. As the situation grew increasingly grim, President Kennedy authorized an "air-umbrella" at dawn on April 19—six unmarked American fighter planes took off to help defend the brigade's B-26 aircraft flying. But the B-26s arrived an hour late, most likely confused by the change in time zones between Nicaragua and Cuba. They were shot down by the Cubans, and the invasion was crushed later that day.

Previously WW11 B26's painted black had been sent from Nicaragua to bomb out Cuban airfields, but they had unreliable intel and missed most of the targets, the Cuban airforce was alert and on station prior to the landing.

Its actually a fascinating study on how not to stage a revolution. The Cuban community which was to help restore the gov't in cuban afdter the attack had alledgely been gossiping about the event for months before it happened since the invasion force trained by the CIA since Eisenhower were all Cuban ex nationals.

I think your right on the .223 as the weapon and a shotgun in the trunk, I had quit reading media about the event since most was just wrongly reported.

Thanks for the clarification. When I say SAW, I'm referring to it as a semiautomatic assault weapon, which the .223 falls under.

0100 hours invading forces launch their boats headed toward Cuban beaches. They encounter some fire from a small militia group. By 0300 hours, the first wave of unloading is completed. Delays are encountered caused by engine failures of the boats and boat damage caused by coral reefs which recon planes had mistaken as sea weed. Castro is alerted at 0315 and order battalions of infantry and militia to mobilize towards the beaches and other battalions to guard the highways. He directs the air force to take off at dawn. 0330 the invading forces come under more fire. 0630 Cuban air attacks commence on the beach and boats.

Late April 16, President Kennedy cancels further US Air Strikes planned for April 17 to attempt to maintain plausible deniability of direct US involvement. The CIA's General C.P. Cabell is informed that the air strikes planned for next dawn will not commence unless they can be launched from a strip within the beachhead. A last ditch limited air strike on April 19th was approved as you correctly quoted:

A completely botched operation for sure.

Thanks for the clarification. When I say SAW, I'm referring to it as a semiautomatic assault weapon, which the .223 falls under.

Which you need to stop doing. SAW is not a freakin assault rifle.

The bushmaster is NOT a SAW.

We don't call our assault rifles (C-7s or C-8s) SAWs at work.

It's a Section Automatic Weapon. Used for laying down heavy rates of fire, as a section support weapon.

If you're going to lay down your expertise, you better get your facts right first. Some people around here actually fire some of these weapons fairly regularly. Heck, even when I'm not at work there is a fair chance that I'm out walking around with some form of a fire arm in my hands.

Ya, we all know how you gun users and purists like to throw a hissy fit over semantics on 3 words rather than focus on the fact that 26 people were killed. I posted links earlier showing that the term SAW has been used by the ATF and in reports by Congress to describe semiautomatic assault weapons. The debate down in the US in wake of the shootings is around bringing back the ban on semiautomatic assault weapons and the term SAW has been used in debates and discussions. In a forum discussion, a US military service member even used the word SAW in that sense. There is no debate currently around sqaud automatic weapons.

"On September 13, 1994, Congress passed the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, Public Law 103-322. Title IX, Subtitle A, Section 110105 of this Act generally made it unlawful to manufacture, transfer, and possess semiautomatic assault weapons (SAWs)..."

Current discussions:

"I just heard that Sen. Feinstein’s attorney is meeting right now with folks from FTB and ATF legal (Eric Epstein [legal], Todd Martin [Legal] and Earl Griffith [FTB] and others) to discuss a new SAW ban, that she would want to start pushing through as soon as (if) Obama gets reelected."

http://www.examiner.com/article/feinstein-rumored-to-be-pushing-semi-auto-ban-if-obama-reelected

Again, don't get so twisted around semantics here and lose sight of the issue at hand.

Were you not defending yourself in using that acronym and now it's been shown to you that that acronym isn't correct? I did a google search before I posted up and in the first few pages I checked it consistently related to the C-249 (what we call the C-9 in our military)

Also, how dare you say or assume that I don't care about what happened. I think it's horrible, and wish that it could have been prevented, but I doubt it could have unless there was someone there to stop it.
The shooter had attempted to legally acquire weapons and was prevented, so in a sense the system worked.

Do I think people need access to certain weapons? Nope. I see no real need for someone to own a 50cal sniper rifle or something with full automatic capabilities.
I think that for the most part, our Canadian regulations are just about as spot on as they can get while keeping everyone except those at the extreme ends of the gun issue happy.

My worry, is that since most people blindly follow news casts, and that we are so flooded with American media, that if the states start bringing in stricter policies for their country, that people here will start to think that we also need stricter laws as well.
I'm happy with what I'm allowed to own as a Canadian and I don't want my freedoms restricted because people that don't have a clue feel insecure.

And, I know this makes me sound like some whack job, but a disarmed society is an oppressed society. It gives those in control free reign to do what they want with little fear. Besides, our military is barely able to protect our own borders, and with the happenings in the world and the legitimate threats we face, we need to keep the general population armed. I'm glad to know that my friends and family are more than capable of looking after themselves by legally owning what they own.

Incorrect to whom? Yes to you guns user and military experts. I'm sorry but this issue is not just restricted to these parties. Congrats on using Google by the way. Ordinary citizens, government departments, and Congress are all weighing in on this debate. Just because we may not be expert gun users such as yourself does not disqualify us from having a valid opinion. Like I said, this is a not a military debate around squad automatic weapons. Again, it's semantics... move on and don't lose sleep over it.

The quote in my prior post describing a "new SAW ban" actually were the words that came from a source at the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Pro gun lobbyists.

Here's another from an article on a gun website, AK-47.net:

"Now you know what a Semiautomatic Assault Weapon (SAW) is, but how do you determine what it is you have or what you can legally buy or make?"

The article was written by a former Reserve Deputy Sheriff who had served in a small Washington County.

Also, how dare you say or assume that I don't care about what happened.
Apologies for interpreting my comments that way. That was not what I was insinuating. I would not make that type of bold accusation of apathy.
