Recent movies you saw - recommend or no

Yeah, but keep in mind it's not legal to download copyrighted stuff. What I use these torrent sites is not to download, but to learn if a given title is out on dvd/blue ray already, so I can go and rent it. Goes something like this:

1) You hear about a title, then check it on www.imdb.com, see if it's something you wanna see.
2) Search for torrents of that title with "dvdrip" or "bdrip" in the file name. If you find any, now I know it's out on dvd / blue ray
3) Go to your local movie rent joint and borrow it legally.

That's what I do, yeah! I made a mistake earlier when I said I downloaded Project Nim, what really happened is I found out it's out on a disk and have all intentions to see it legally. Nuff said :)

Saw '12 Year A Slave' in Mississauga a week ago. Excellent movie! Hope it comes to a theatre in my area. I'll go and see it again.

Watched some docs from a few years back.

Dogtown and Z-Boys
About the Zephyr surf/skateboard team that revolutionized and transformed skateboarding into what we know it as today.

Riding Giants
About the history of big wave surfing.

Both were great docs. Always interesting to see a sports progression and how it gets transformed by the legends of the sport.

Big wave surfing looks sketchy as ****.

The movie (Dogtown) with Heath Ledger isn't bad either. I'd recommend watching Dogtown and Z-Boys first.

Undefeated
Academy Awards best Documentary in 2012
The story of Manassas high school football team. Poorest/worst team in the league. They get paid by the better teams in the state to get smashed in practice games. Never won a playoff game in it's 110 years history. Volunteer coach Bill Courtney does his best to reverse their fortunes and gives the kids a chance.

Really great doc. Amazing that things like this happen in real life and people can be this generous.

Saw it last night. Fantastic film! If Ejiofor doesn't win an Oscar, I would be VERY surprised.

Ender's game was pretty cool. I enjoyed it a lot.

Yea i'm a bit mixed on it....It follows the book closely, only veering off here and there, but the depth of characters, depth of storyline simply wasnt there.

They could have quickly explained a few things that would have made the story line sooo much better and enjoyable. Literally a 60 second screen where Harrison Ford explains to Ender how the "ansible" works. I dont wanna get into too much detail to spoil the movie, but there is a very important part of how the fleets got to where they were in such a time frame...

Sounds like Comicbookgirl19's review of Ender's Game. She said the same thing; not bad but lacking depth, and some important plot elements.

I think Ender's game is gonna go to the wayside of Prometheus as having great potential but turning out meh. At least Enders game is not full of idiotic characters and implausible storyline.

The original script for what eventually became that heap of flaming excrement known as "Prometheus" can be found, online, and is far better than the movie.

It's what happens when investors/hollywood start having too much say with the direction of a movie.

Series like Dexter and Walking Dead come to mind as well. Good seasons up front but then the Studios want to make more $$ and it goes to crap. That's a different thread though.

Going to watch THOR 2 tonight, we'll see if it holds up. (I expect it should...)

Saw The Sweeny the other day. Not bad for passing the time for a while as long as you can tolerate the mockney accents. Doesn't come close to the original series though.

Ever hear Kevin Smith talk about the time that he was hired to write a Superman movie?

Saw Thor 2. I liked it better than the first one. If you even half liked the first one, you'll love this much more.
Good movie overall, lots of action and one-liners. I'd watch it again.
The first 20 mins set up the movie, so bear with it.

Don't waste your time watching it in 3D, not really much of a difference.
As always, stay until the credits are over, like every Marvel film. Many cameo's, see if you can spot them all.

Jon Peters.

Classic example of producers ruining the character/story just for franchising.

just got around to watching the Wolverine. not bad...entertaining. a few silly scenes, but doesn't ruin it.

Yup, it was definitely a fun movie, but I think that it would be just a touch better if seen in 3D like I did. The art direction in it had me thinking of the name Jack Kirby all the way through it, so I was glad to see his name in the credits.

Oh, and there are TWO scenes after the credits roll. don't walk out after the first.

I never read the book so I wouldn't know. People appreciate movies differently when they haven't read the book.
