Went Asian these days.. First I watched the remake - Dragon Eyes, not bad martial arts action.. Then I went OOOOOOOOOOOOLD school and watched the original in black and white - Yojimbo. Basically an asskicker walks into town during a gang war and plays the 2 gangs against each other so he can eliminate them.. Some of the other movies that borrowed from it were: For a Few Dollars More, Last Man Standing, a bit of 2003 Zatoichi and War (Jet Li).
About to fire up the sequel (betting it's also in b&w lol)
Yojimbo is a hell of a great movie. One of the all-time classics.
If you're on an Asian movie kick then I would also recommend "The Killer" (English title), starring Chow Yun-Fat. Good early John Woo stuff. You'll probably only find a subtitled version. "Mickey Mouse!!!!!!!!"
The Killer is a pretty good one.. Another with a similar theme (if a bit heavy on the sap) is Fulltime Killer.
The sequel to Yojimbo, called Sanjuro.. Liked it even better.. It's a bit lighter, more of a comic spin. Next up on the list will be the entire run of Zatoichi films (around 25, not including the 2003 remake and some POS filmed in 2010)
I tried Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo and it was pretty lame, as the genre goes. I need to try some of the earlier Zatoichi films.
I figured they wanted to cash in on both characters and it is one of the latter Zatoichi movies.. I'll go through the whole series eventually lol
Watched the first 4 Zatoichi movies..
1) The Tale of Zatoichi - VERY well made, loved it.. I'm glad I watched the remake first as the remake was a good movie on its own and didn't completely recycle the story/characters so it was a good one on its own but still not as good as the original
2) The Tale of Zatoichi Continues - Not as good as the first one.. More action-packed but doesn't tell much of a story
3) New Tale of Zatoichi - The first of the series in color. Better than #2, not as good as #1, but still enjoyable
4) Zatoichi the Fugitive - On par with #3, recommended
I will continue reporting as I go along
And maybe buy one of these so that you can play the 'home game', while they're still available

Looking forward to getting my hands on those movies. I'd really like to find a store that stocks the Kurosawa boxed set too.
Lol.. The only weapon I've played with were eskrima sticks and the 2-handed style suits me.. For blades, I'd probably go Chinese with butterflies. Having too much of a blast with guns at the moment so that'll have to wait, probably until I'm middle-aged

That made me lolJohn Woo's early work is epic. Half the movie's budgets were spent on ammo.
