Provincial politics

I would argue that voting with your dollar is a much more powerful and effective exercise of your democratic choice than an electoral vote.

Your vote has an effect on the value of the dollar, even at the Provincial level.

A co-worker of mine said he went and voted at an advanced poll and in his riding someone is running for the "None of the Above" party... very appropriate for this election.

I'm a strong PC supporter...but I don't know if I can vote Hudak in with a clear conscience.

I just wish we had a proper centre-right party :(

We used to... The old "Progressive Conservative" party. Seemed evaporate once the "right" merged and the new Conservative party came into being. While the provincial party still has a PC name the fabric of the party seems much less "progressive" than it used to be.

I am going to vote either Green or NDP this time. The leader of the Green Party is running right here in Guelph.

Voting is one of my favourite things to do. It's the one and only time that I get to make a countable choice regarding the rich and powerful.

I wish I could vote more often.

+1...

We take our suffrage far too much for granted.

Crazy how low the voter turnout usually is; especially at the municipal level.

Anyone that likes Wynne and doesn't think she should be held accountable for McGinty's leadership is off their rocker. Seriously. It was a political move to have McGinty to head out in the sun set and let someone else take over. Has anything else changed? Are Ontario voter really prepared to vote Liberal again after this whole entire mess? OMG!!!!

Rob, I understand the spoiled/declined ballot principal but, the political machine will keep those votes to an insignificant number. We haven't really had enough folks really be impacted with poor governance to create any interest. It's a shame really. We have a very young democratic country and we've become complacent and dismissive of things so important.

The Ontario PCs are turning into American Fox News right wing nuts to the point of alienating folks from being associated with the party. Since when was being a conservative such a bad thing? Being conservative means you get labeled a rich white racist loving person.

The reality is.....if the PC do get a crack at the province, it will be a minority. And from the sounds of the NDP mantra, it seems like they will make king maker as the liberals are forced to oppose anything BLUE. That just might be the right combo to govern things for a while.

Lord knows I could be wrong.

Politics has nothing to do with intelligence of the candidate. It's all about the campaign and working the votes.

The Liberal Party is the same Liberal Party that wasted a ton of money, lied about increasing taxes, and covered up their actions. Whether Wynne was involved or not (I tend to believe that she was not), the fact remains that the party benefited from these actions and must be punished.

It's not the decided voters I'm thinking of, when I talk about declining to vote. It's those people who will be sitting on their couches, at home, while others are choosing the government that they'll have to live with. Last election that was 50.8% of voters who didn't bother to take part in the process. I would love it if all of those people would come out to state their disenfranchisement, but I realize that's unrealistic. Just 5 % of registered voters who would not otherwise vote coming out to cast their vote of protest would send a big message, when less than that amount is frequently the swing factor in elections.

The PCs are swinging neo-con. It worked for the Federal Conservatives, so Hudak is gambling it will work Provincially too. Hudak lost my vote the moment that he said he wouldn't be taking part in government. It was a minority government. He had every chance of having the voices of those who put him in power heard, but instead behaved like a petulant child. That gave the NDP more power than they deserved. So what is going to happen if it's a PC minority; will he refuse to work with the Liberals again? Would a PC work with the NDP? Not likely. That would mean another election in short order. Frighteningly enough, though, it's quite possible that the PCs will get a majority as their supporters are more likely to vote this election, than the supporters of other parties.

I'm tired of the politics of separation. Give me a leader, not a politician, who tells things straight.

How long did Joe Clark stay in power when he said he was going to run his minority federal government like it was a majority? I don't think the elections signs even got taken down.

How long did Stephen Harper stay in power when he said that he was going to run his minority government like a majority? Hint; he's still there but with a majority, even after a Contempt of Parliament finding.

The times they are a-changin'.

How, pray tell, is such an individual going to get elected?

People don't want to hear that there's no free lunch. Right now we need $5,000.00 a year from every man woman and child in the province for the next four years to eliminate the debt and get the boat stable.

That is $5Gs worth of toys people won't get to play with and $5Gs of sales big business won't make. Who is going to support this knight in shining armour?

Here's the problem .... when you put it like that, yes I could agree. But, I don't believe that, that's the thing and there's many other independents who don't believe it either. Will PC government not steal money and lie? I don't think you will see another gas plant fiasco, I do think they will lie when they need to ... look at TH he already has started ... making a mockery of his 1mil. of jobs.

I think this could be said about any party. In the end I believe they all **** us, it's just trying to select which is the lesser of the evils

The irony is, this straight shooter would need to lie to get elected. Farkin politics.

"I know what we promised but now that we are in power and can see the true books and situations, conditions that have been thrust upon us by the actions of the previous government makes it impossible to keep those promises."

Repeat the above every four years.

Sure it could, hence nobody worth voting for ... I am not doing the lesser of evils thing anymore.

He almost did (John Tory) until he pulled a stupid move, handing the election to McGuinty.

I'll pay my $5K this minute, if it means that my taxes will be frozen for the next 10 years.

That's $5K a year for 4 years but I'd be in on it if my rate was frozen, exempt from new user fees, and a discount because they aren't paying interest on my part of the debt.
Actually you can make money on the debt by buying Ontario Bonds. Not sure if it's a good deal. A good deal from the government?????
