Provincial politics

Except for there's no neo-con on the horizon of Ontario threatening to enter the chambers. The parties we have on menu are in my view equally bad because of their candidates, program or previous performance, period. It has nothing to do with their wrong ideology.

I had no clue that Marxism-Leninism was a party ... I though it was an ideology which had nothing to do with people freely choosing it, but rather people's only allowed offering. I know more about this than you think .... I think you are way off to bring this into the same context of Ontario provincial election.

Ok, you are right. The M-L party isn't running in Ontario in 2014 but the Communist Party is!

This link is a list of all the "parties" registered to run in Ontario 2014. Obviously not all of these are in every riding, lol: http://www.elections.on.ca/en-CA/CandidatesAndParties/PoliticalParties/

This link, shows my riding as only having 5 choices. The big 3, Green and Libertarian. Find your riding! http://www.electionalmanac.com/ea/ontario-ridings-candidates/

Ok .... I wouldn't know either way ... I was just reacting to your Marxist-Leninism because that certainly sounded like ideology not a party.

At any rate, I don't think we have nothing to worry about in Ontario or Canada .... many many bad things would have to happen before I would give a vote to someone I don't like to prevent another bad guy to get in.

Here's the story of Hudak's "million jobs." Sounds like it's actually a net minus 25,000 jobs.

http://www.macleans.ca/politics/checking-the-math-on-tim-hudaks-million-jobs-plan/

You see, and someone would want me to consider, now lying, TH and his 1mil. of jobs scheme for vote? ..... ridiculous this guy and his program is.

Someone wrote ... if TH is in politics for 19years, by TH job mathematics it counted for 19 permanent jobs ... LOL .... way to go PC.

Most of the private sector has left Ontario under the Liberals.

We'll become a banana republic if we continue to keep the Libreals or NDP. Worse we'll become a zimbabwe where everyone in the public sector are millionares and the entire economy is destroyed.

I'm not willing to put that on the Liberals for one very simple reason; Ontario still has some of the lowest corporate tax rates going. Hudak thinks that dropping them even more is the way to go, when it has become obvious that the tax rates aren't the issue. If another jurisdiction is (1) willing to give you money to move there and (2) going to allow you to pay your workers dirt, you're going to move there.

On the other hand Hudak wants to end "corporate welfare." Unfortunately that's exactly what is drawing industry elsewhere.

My point is as it always has been: None of these parties have a clue, nor are they willing to discuss things intelligently.

When I met Hudak a couple weeks ago he came across strongly as a true believer type. I personally find that scary as I do not think government should be governed by ideology.

The 'true believers' are, in fact, among the most frightening people imaginable. I like people who ask questions.

Hypothetically,

I make $50K a year, pay alimony and child support, GF is pregnant, have $75K on my credit cards, three months behind on my $250K mortgage, car is financed and needs a new tranny, hydro just got shut off and the company is talking layoffs. Can we sit down and intelligently discuss a four year plan to pay off all my debts? It can't be today because I'm out buying a new bass boat. Welcome to Ontario.

If I was a moderator instead of you I'd have you banned for using the word "Intelligent" or any of its derivatives in a political thread. :)

Gold! Way to cut to the chase:thumbup:

Right here is the problem.

Most of these "leaders" have been born with silver spoons or are actually intelligent and choose to bicker back and forth like 5 year olds.

IMO what we need is a hard working bean counter. Someone who has the potential to make 100+k a year but currently makes 30k. Social awareness at the same time as financial smarts. Frankly someone who isn't a book worm and hasn't studied poly-sci.

Sorry, didn't mean to elevate the tenor of the thread. I'll be more careful in future ;)

I don't just blame politicians. I also blame voters for being stupid enough to be bribed with their own money, then failing to see that that is exactly what happened when the next election rolls around. The only Premier I can remember who actually fulfilled his election promises was Harris and look what happened to him.

I also think that our elected representatives should be well compensated for their work. Well enough that they don't feel the need to feather their nests on top of their salaries. It has always struck me as rather ironic we pay people who are expected to handle billions of dollars a small fraction of what they could make in private industry. Just as with the minimum wage mall cop, you're just begging to have him rob you blind.

So, do I hear you saying you will join me in declining the ballot? I have a feeling we will be a force this time around ... :-)

At this point no one has convinced me that they deserve my vote, so my current plan is to decline.

I'm half way through "Limits to Growth" and waiting for the part where the Lone Ranger rides in and rescues us. Forgive my paranoia and sarcasm.

Sadly the cure to our dilemma will likely kill us. Personal frugality would help reduce personal debt and erosion of the land and reduce pollution. It would also destroy the big burger chains, most of the retail market and eventually the stock market. When the stock market crashes there go our pensions, insurance companies and bank savings.

If you want to get elected you have to give people hope not truth even if the hope is false. We have been conditioned to believe we "Deserve a break today" for doing the absolute minimum because the laws of mathematics, logic and physics shouldn't apply to us.

The Green Party may have a few answers but I don't see them riding to the rescue anytime soon. Are the prudent of today going to fare any better than the spendthrifts or are they just going to be another buffalo driven over the cliff?

Don't care about Lone Ranger ... for the start someone truthful with a solid reputation with a clearly defined program, who will stick to it would be enough. Wait, perhaps it is a Lone Ranger I have in mind, right?

This moment it seems to be a lineup full of lies, smoke screens etc.

I vote for the party not the leader. Liberal has to go. They are in power too long and corrupted to the core. The worst PC will do is as bad as libs. But there is a slight chance PC will do better. I would like to take that chance. I just couldn't believe MacLier got elected twice. It says something about Ontario people.
