In case you need yet another reason to vote for the Ontario Liberals this election: http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/0...lean-test-program-while-pcs-keen-to-scrap-it/

Hudak is also against photo radar.

Now how the heck does he think getting rid of 100,000 jobs going to save money while trying to create 1,000,000.

I'd love to toss a bunch of dead beat government jobs but, you know it's going to cost huge severance packages and they will just another job and then get counted as one of the million new jobs. It's just a rat race.

Still better than NDP and Libs tho.

That program has been a scam since day one. If they wanted to "fix" the issue of cars that shouldn't be on the road they should have imposed a safety every few years. Nowadays though the majority of people lease or buy a new one every couple of years so even that would be a waste of time/money. Either way drive clean should have been scrapped long ago

Gah! Fricken Liberals... Wish the Conservatives had someone a little more moderate in charge. What ever happened to the "Progressive" Conservatives of my youth? Did Preston Manning airlift some more wingnuts to derail the party further?

Wish Tory had not have imploded and was still running the party.

Drive Clean is an absolute joke!

Think of this: People are offered packages to leave their stable government jobs. That's one of the things that happened under Rae. They would have to be pretty substantial packages. A year's salary? Two years? Who do you think is going to take those packages; people who are dead wood, or people who can almost immediately get another job and be able to pocket that money?

Interesting thing that I hadn't thought of regarding the million jobs thing, until it was offhandedly mentioned on the radio. Then I did the math. The population of Ontario is about 13.5 million. One million is, therefore, a little under seven and a half percent of Ontario's population. Statistics Canada places the unemployment rate at 6.9%.

Now consider that the population I listed for Ontario is the TOTAL including working age people, retirees, and children.

Stop scaring us with reality checks.

BTW if Hudak cuts 100,000 civil service jobs, how would that really work out. Attrition could thin the herd over a decade or two but a wholesale decimation would backfire.

If a family household lost a member the others would work harder to keep up. That won't happen wit the civil service. "Please keep holding until a representative is available.............."

The payouts would be less if they axed the new hires but then there would be a mass rehiring when attrition comes around down the road.

There's an all candidates meeting tomorrow. Smoke and mirrors?

Math? 931,500 presently out of work. Fire another 100,000 = 1,031,500. Create 1,000,000 new jobs = 31,500 unemployed = 0.2 percent unemployment = Nobel Prize for economics (Or work of fiction)

Million new jobs.......million man march......million.....million..........million.....it's just a campaign slogan. Hudak and the PCs know it. It's unrealistic. But, if they can show progress!!!! If they were to get into office, they would create some fudged numbers to show their progress. The opposition will slag the numbers......the smoke and mirrors break out...........

Typical government. Take credit for things when it's going well and blame things outside of their control when things are not going well.

The Liberals wasted billions........BILLIONS........how anyone can vote for them, I honestly don't know.

Hudak isn't going to win because he doesn't look the part. It's a shallow and simple minded observation but, he just looks goofy. And it's not the informed voters that win elections. It's the sheep.........

I was ready to vote Liberal until it occurred to me - based on the way Wynne is described by those who know her, and her budget - that she may not have the discipline to control spending. Too bad because she seems to be a genuinely good person. I don't think she had a hand in the gas plant scandal either, which would be a deal-breaker for me. IMO, the scandal isn't about the billions dollars (after all there were 1000 billion dollars that passed through Liberal hands over 10 years), it's about the corruption of democracy by "buying" votes with the cancelled plants. None of the previous billion dollar "scandals" had that aspect of deliberate corruption as far as I can tell. I lay that one squarely on McGuinty.

Anyways, it looks like I'll be voting Green. I don't know who my local candidate is but it doesn't matter since he won't win. I'm voting in support of their party platform.

Steady hand on the tiller doesn't cut it anymore. Must have eyeball flatening policy changes.

What I'm looking for is that steady hand on the tiller, as a (progressive/fiscal) conservative. What we get, instead, are people who must do their best to demonize the previous government, whether or not it's deserved.

Some good political insight to be found online, newsprint, magazines, even television programs/news. Also, raging rants by barely literate parrots can be had at the local coffee shop. At the end of the day both scenarios leave you at square one.

It really starts look like I might sit this one out .... the options are really pathetic doesn't matter how often I go over them. And on top of that we have NDP grass roots screaming at their leader you are too much to the right, what are you doing?? ... LOL ... so ironic.

I agree except higher voter turn out shows we're watching. Half the problem, imho, is voter apathy green lighting political shenanigans.

Then please take the time to formally decline your ballot.

You're probably thinking of the Toronto mayoral race; http://www.nepmcc.ca/press release/mayoralcand.html

Nope the ridings All party shindig. NDP, PC, Libs, Green and Freedom showed up. Math teachers everywhere must be crying.

Clarification of some PC policies helped their cause. Pino Martino, a lawyer was the PC. Held her own.
The Liberal was Yvan Baker. He was tops in the sell job and even eluded to financial mistakes being made. Very polished but spoke like Harper, sort of a humble snob effect.
NDP, Jones, a civil servant working for Toronto Region Conservation Authority. Check out their fiscal ethics before voting.
Green: Made some points but no real depth. Some long term potential for the party depending on the weather.
Freedom Party: A young guy that was out of his league but nice to see young blood being active.

PC, Liberal or Decline?

The thing that always amazes me is how many great economic ideas these people get a month before an election but nothing, nada during their term.

Rob, you know better than that.

The current published unemployment rate is 6.9% but the actual number jobless rate is always higher than that. Add those who have run out of EI benefits or who have given up looking, etc. It is likely 10% or higher.

That being said, I don't like Hudak. I also will not vote Liberal or NDP. I'll be declining my ballot this year.

Sadly Hudak is almost unelectable since he just doesn't have the "look". He's a really smart guy, just doesn't carry it like a leader. But the current trend of, if they say white , we scream black, is really tiring and wont help anything. The liberals allegedly blamed by the conservs and ndp for putting 1 million out of work, Conservs claim they will put 1 million back to work.
Wynne may not have had a hand in the gas plant mess, but it was her party and the decision makers are still there. I will be paying for that longer than I've been paying down Ontario Hydro debt.
Until a lot of people understand the government has no money, its our money, they will keep electing MP's that want to spend their way out of the ditch. Its a deep ditch with alligators in it.
