When I think about what Canada is, I don't think of Toronto and immigrants. Canada is a big empty country with beautiful landscapes. Go exploring. The fewer people there are, the more you'll like it.

Agreed...

I drove truck for awhile and the one thing I did like about was seeing so many beautiful vistas and meeting a lot of different and interesting people. Sadly, it also meant chaining up and having to contend with roads like this:

But... It also meant that I was able to regularly see sights like this:

I was maintaining a detached mind about this situation for days now. It's a messy and muddled situation for sure.

However, with today's news that Isis released a video that suggests that a child was used to assassinate 2 (Russian?) hostages, any sympathy for these terrorists has evaporated. This is in no way understandable, no matter how you choose to define it.

Their fanaticism has corrupted their humanity.

As a contrast, consider Gandhi's nonviolent victory over British occupation.

Oh, was this the straw that broke the camels back?

Yeah. It tipped the balance. Just like the seemingly insignificant straw.

How one treats innocents like animals and children speaks volumes.

...And this is how it starts and this is what happens...

Reasonable people get upset and frustrated and Islamophobia and Xenophobia is the result. The mayor of Rotterdam is my hero. We need more Muslims to come forward publicly like this.

I hope we see some marches and protests by Muslim communities in Western countries AGAINST the extremist groups like ISIS. I would gladly march with them in solidarity.

Yeah, no.

I still separate peaceful Muslims from terrorists!

I'm glad you do. Unfortunately I suspect there is going to be a widespread fear and loathing against Muslims by unthinking people going forward. Think of those less educated who get raised to be racists, believe in "white power" and all of this other nonsense that takes place.

They're just disenfranchised.

You actually have, or have had, sympathy for Terrorists??????

I have an understanding about why they may feel compelled to attack those who they feel attack them. But it's important to know that the way I define "understand" has nothing to do with condone, excuse, or accept.

The world isn't black and white. There're a lot of grays. The Middle East is complicated.

I wonder if the terrorists would use similar terminology to justify their feelings and actions?

I cannot speak for moderate Muslims but I would really hate it if someone looked at me as a Caucasian and made assumptions about me in the context of the KKK, White Power members, White gansters, White Trash etc.

While there are lots of reasons for Muslims around the world to be upset (e.g. Oil Standard being in U.S. dollars instead of the Gold Standard, U.S. Foreign Policy, Israel domestic and foreign policy etc, etc, etc) the actions of ISIS are unconscienceable and unjustifiable.

Then there's the boko haram Muslim group in Africa. Their interpretation of Islam is also extreme and militant.
