I do not understand how someone can be fired over that yet they publish the cartoons which seem even more inflamatory.

I suspect that what the fired cartoonist did would be considered Free Speech in France but as others have said what a private institution/organization holds its members up to is another matter.

It does seem to be a double standard that the cartoonist in question was dismissed for comments/behavior which upset practitioners of Judaism; yet they did not choose to censor themselves with regards to what might offend those of the Muslim faith.

I can see why a Muslim person could view this and be very frustrated.

Just the same though I suspect that the cartoonist would be allowed to say his anti-semitic remarks under French law. The censorship was imposed by the magazine; not France.

Dude, you're the one taking it off track. You don't like what someone says/draws, there are socially acceptable/responsible means of recourse, or you respond in kind.
You don't slaughter unarmed people with automatic weapons to further your percieved cause, that is simply terrorism.

The thread title is Paris Attack, not Curbing Rights to Free Speech. N3WMAN started the thread, not YOU. YOU have absolutely no business telling anyone what can or cannot be discussed in it. Contrary to your belief, it's a discussion, not a platform for YOU. If you don't like it, GTFO.

I'm loath to cause a bother but thought it might be fun to point out the parallels between this post and, say, going to another country and trying to impose your way of doing things.
 
Just another thought. Are the Paris murderers part of the same "movement" that killed 150 in a Pakistan school? Can that be "understood" too?

below i am talking about all the kids killed not just the 150 on TV
it was an atrocity for which the parents(military officers) were just as responsible as the attackers...

the army has been waging war for a few years on and off.. but this time they decided to finish the job..

so the army was the first to use.. SAME/SIMILAR tactics.. unofficially of course... remember its not a terror operation... just calling it that doesn't make it so..

its a civil operation..

when india-pakistan separated the North waziristan region was granted self rule.. so they ruled as they always did tribal laws... country did not invest in infrastructure or any damn thing... now most families have close relatives on the afghan side some are taliban most are not... now they come over to their relatives because of the war.. america pressures pakistan to smoke em out.. after years pakistan finally says ok.... but the tribes say we have self rule.. who are you to tell me to kick out my brother and his family... army goes in.. tribes say no way... both sides draw guns...its a draw.. but this years operation was too aggressive.. they started killing anyone in sight... if the army is looking for one person and find him in a hillside village... they shell the entire area.. now his entire family is dead.. to catch one SUSPECTED fighter.... many such operations happened.. we in the west said.. yay pakistan is onboard our WAR OF TERROR.. no protest no condemnations... guess what the people who survived do... they go kill the children at the army officers school... BOTH SIDES COMMITED WAR CRIMES.. attacking family members to reach combatants was a tactic used by the army first.. just so you know. unofficially of course.. ask them they will deny it.. they won't say they had confirmed civilian presence.

OBVIOUSLY THATS NOT EVERY LITTLE DETAIL... but it is the summary of what happened leading upto that particular attack.. summary of the last 8 months in that region of pakistan... other areas had incidents as well..

army has their side of the story too

remember ARMY OFFICERS school.. that means in order for the kids to be their... they belong to a army family(commonly one parent)

media told us about the school attack.. but nobody told us about the casualties from the army operations..

riceburner you quoted that 150 kids were killed in that attack..

do you have any idea of how many kids were killed in the army operations? i want an answer do your research and post it here smarty pants.

both killed family members(including children) to get to combatants

the only victims are the innocent families of both sides.
my information is from some close friends with IMMEDIATE family in the armed forces of pakistan.. where did you get your information.. fox news?

do you even have any idea how many children have been killed due to US drone attacks?

helping a smart and vibrant individual like yourself UNDERSTAND the core sensitivities of the subject on hand is not justification.. its enlightenment.

the maulana of the attackers(spiritual advisor) ironically said the same thing.. but about the kids being killed by the army.. just so you know.

small translated portion---" no excuse for killing our kids.. your fight is with us.. how does it feel now?"

however he was saying that as justification.. which is pretty stupid

I have the same question, you cannot be expected to be taken seriously at all... Not when your opening sentence is as outrageous and incendiary as what you wrote.

they did more harm than can be explained in words.. after sep 11 muslims had a hard enough time...

they did the killings and died.. now the world looks to muslims as though we can magically replace the pain.. in the process forget that muslims are suffering as well... muslim dead don't get mentioned on tv as though they don't exist...so no body cares
