Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

You feel no difference?

How can someone so out of touch with their vehicle consider themselves a good driver?

Probably takes you a week to figure out you have flat as well.

You are so full of it
Tell yourself your a good little soilder because you bought useless winter tires. You can't tell me I'm wrong because I've used both myself and that's the decision I've made. So all the pro winter tire people here, keep buying you tires. What do I care? I know what what's up and I'm not wasting my money on these false security products. On top of that you can a quit with your make it law crap as well. Worry about what you do and leave the rest of us alone.

Now that I'm on a real keyboard I'm going all out here.
You like winter tires?, well that's fine. I don't have a problem with it. What I have a problem with is this whole "Make it law" b.s. you little sheeple are spouting. You think your going to be any safer winter driving because everyone has them? There are already laws that are supposed to keep people from doing stupid things on the road and it doesn't seem to stop some people. You think their winter tires are going to save you and your family's collective butts in your minivan when those idiots come charging up behind and hit the brakes? That's why I say they are a false sense of security, because they are only as good as your driving in the given conditions which is what everyone is already supposed to be doing, which there not, which is why they are wiping out.

So now you think if the powers that be force us to do it it will save us all from these people? What about city dwelling people where the streets are cleared in no time? Oh boy good thing I got these bad boys on it sure helped for a half an hour or so. A good set of all season is more then enough when your diving the way required for the weather.Like I said in an earlier post I had tires on right now that badly need replaced. There is no excuse for that and I bear all responsibility for them. However even with my crap worn out tires I still managed to get all my work done that required me to drive all over town last Friday night. What did I see right off the bat? An all wheel drive Audi just wreck its self on the curb. Did they have winter tires? I don't know. Did I navigate the same downhill intersection that was a sheet of ice with my Focus sporting all seasons without a problem? Yep. Car is fine, I'm fine. Why? BECAUSE YOU SLOW THE HELL DOWN that's why.

You can make whatever points you want. If you feel safer then do it. It's no skin off my back. Just don't talk down to me like I'm some tire blasphemer in your rubber kingdom. I've had both in winter, I have made my decision from my experiences and that's up to me. Also don't throw facts at me from a damn tire website. What the hell do you think they are going to say on the tire website? "Winter tires...........there o.k."? Yeah I don't think we will see that kind of advertising any time soon. What we should be doing is forcing change in the way we are trained to drive. Skid control school in this country should be a MUST! Driver exams should have to be taken within so many km's of your postal code, not "I live in Toronto but went to Bancroft to take my test because there is no traffic" B.S.! There is so much wrong with the way this province handles driving and winter tires are not going to help.

That's it, So tell me I can't drive because I don't care. I got a ticket free, accident free record that tells me and my insurance company different. Throw more tire manufacturers facts from websites around while your at it. However after you all done do yourself a favor and start worrying about yourself. If you are really scared for you and your family's life on the road durring winter DON'T DRIVE IN WINTER. Some of you put way to much faith in winter rubber. Don't for a second force that on me or anyone else through law.

LOL!

I stand by my statement. If you cant tell the difference between a worn out all season and a good winter tire on your can you cant be a good driver.

And I bought what now? What kind of tires do I have on my car?

I said I couldnt tell the diff with all seasons vs. winter. not winter vs. my worn out tires.

Tell yourself your a good little soilder because you blah, blah, blah.....

This post makes me want to lobby my MPP hard to support any member's bill put forth mandating winter tires in Ontario.

Either way you have no feel for your vehicle.

I felt the difference in traction once the temperature dropped below 10 c.

But then again people like you in the GTA are pretty clueless. I've plowed through 2 ft of snow on my driveway just to arrive in Brampton later on were it was only wet.

As Crazy Johnny says - " you don't have to get mad!" Dude, just breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, picturing a beautiful summer day... then get your *** to a pub and have a drink maing - you are wound too tight right now!

So now lets see, i can see similarities between ATGATT threads and this thread.

'Nothing ever happened to me and it wont happen to me cause im awesome'
You might be and thats good for you. We need more good drivers like you. But when you need that extra margin of manoeuverability and grip because some ****** is coming at you from behind and cant stop and you need to accelerate faster to get out of his way (because whiplash in real life is not as cool and fun as the villain in the comics), whatever skills you may have, winter tires will move you off the start with LESS skidding faster than all seasons.
Proper all seasons and proper winter tires should still make you feel a difference in feel, unless you have crap tires on. And im talking, breaking wise, cornering wise, start from dead-stop wise. Ill need new winters next year..had i not finished my no-seasons this past year, i wouldve wanted to test it out myself in a parking lot with snow. To be able to prove a fkin point lol :p

In the meantime drive safe :)

Sorry Venom...

I HATE "sheeple" laws. And I don't think that this should be made law. For a few reasons:
- It gives bad drivers a false sense of security.
- Not everyone has the $ all the time... A set of decent winter tires alone would be $1000 for my truck. Throw in wheels, balancing, install, taxes, and possibly a storage fee if someone doesn't have the space... That could be some decent coin.

I think people just need to realize it's winter. It will take you longer to get places, you'll need to leave time before you hop in the car to clean off the snow etc. It sucks, but that's Canada.

However. If you can't tell the difference in snows and all seasons, then you don't have good feel as a driver.
I had a set of new (less than a year old) Goodyear Wrangler duratrac tires on my Canyon. They ARE snowflake rated and they did a good job in the snow... Better than my original all seasons. However, I still swapped them over for legit snow tires... And even then there was a difference in traction compared to the two.

Do I believe in the function of snow tires? Yes, I do.
I'm not running snow tires... I've only actually had snow tires ever for one winter (last year), so I just slow down and be cautious and I won't have any issue.
I've been driving since before I could legally drive. Years of playing around in old 2wd pickups on the farm in the mud and snow taught me a few things about vehicle control, and so did a few years driving truck.

I HAVE had a fairly serious accident in bad winter weather. I had ****** all seasons on, and was 18. Sure, I can blame having ****** tires on the fact that I had to go for the shoulder to avoid the old man who slammed on his brakes when he hit a sketchy spot on the highway. Or, I could take it as a learning experience as to not how to drive in the winter. Lesson learned!

I'm teaching my GF to drive (she's 22, just to throw out any sick thoughts from this group), and one of the first things I'll be doing is taking her to an empty, packed snow covered lot, turning the traction control in my truck off, and teach her how to spin the truck around "drift" style. I think everyone should do this, so that when you do end up in a slide you know exactly how to react, and how your vehicle behaves in the snow/ice.

I think driver behavior is the real solution to the issue. And in the urban areas, we have a higher % of the population that isn't from Canada that doesn't know how to drive in these conditions.

THIS! X100W48932048329057

It increased my reaction speed so much after i practiced, and sometimes gas is better than brakes in those situations (to get you out of a bad situation)
Another trick is to also do that in different conditions because wet snow, fluffy snow, fluffy snow with ice under, etc make your car behave differently.

Govt has/or will be mandating traction control, vehicle stability control, ABS, and airbags and more. These things all add cost to a vehicle.

Wheres the uproar for this?

And I'd wager that many, if not all of you, would never buy a car without this tech. You've all been driving for 20+ years with your bias ply tires, 4 wheel drum brakes, and lap seat belts, who needs it right?

Nevermind the cars, many already whine that certain bikes don't come with Traction Control.

Surely that will add to the cost?

I spoke out against ABS, and it's not even mandatory (or at least it wasn't at the time). Similar rationale though, ABS had questionable benefits but clearly increased costs.

Well there you have it folks! Forget all the tire manufacturers in the world, the millions of dollars that has gone into research, development and tests. Forget the countless independent tests conducted all over the world since Venom01 decided they're garbage!

Had you actually watched the video you would have understood that winter tires aren't only better in the snow. They are actually also better on dry pavement when the temperature is below 7 degrees as well as snow and ice. See its a different compound which improves your handling in the cold, along with stopping distance.

So you're driving around on worn out all seasons and you think you're better off than having a good set of winter tires? I guess theres no explaining it to you, but im sure everyone else is facepalming their face as they read this.
You made it cause you might be a better driver than average, however if you needed to stop quickly for whatever reason all seasons (especially ur worn out slicks) would get their ***** handed to them every time vs winter tires.

As for slowing down is all you need to do? Hmm go tell that to all the trucks out west in British Columbia as well as western United States. When you introduce hills into the equation you can be moving 5km/h, but with no traction you will start sliding until you come off a cliff. This is why chains are needed, however if you have winter tires you don't have to install chains, but hey what they hell do they know? Venom01 conducted his own research on flat land with a focus lmao

No matter what point we make there is no convincing you. There is nothing worse than someone who thinks they're right and is close minded. Your mind is already made up. I just hope your attempt to save a couple hundred bucks doesn't cost someone their life.

Like I said before in my experience that is not true. My all season goodyear triple tred grip much better than my yoko IG20s on dry and wet pavement well bellow 7. Same deal with my GFs blizzaks vs yoko all season. If my car wasn't a 90% ski trip car, and I had to commute with it I would keep my triple tred on during winter. Considering we only get a few days with snow on roads I would prefer better handling on the predominant condition(dry roads).

You mean you don't drive through a pylon obstacle course on a hockey rink every day?

Weirdo!

Of course I do. I tow a trailer with four set of tires. Gotta be ready for every condition. Summer tires, all season tires, winter tires and for those days that I end up on an ice rink I never leave behind my studded winter tires. Anyone who doesn't carry four sets is a cheap clueless noob that hasn't watched enough YouTube.

That's good to hear. "Common sense" scores another win.
