Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

I was on The Gardiner at 6:00am, today, wondering why so many people thought that they should be doing less than 50 Kmh in the centre lane, when the road was little more than wet, while I was driving said unfamiliar car with all season tires. Get over to the right! You're slowing EVERYONE down!!

Absolutely. There was some idiot on the 401 going 40 with his 4 ways on. That's all fine and good but he was one lane from the left on a 4 lane section slowing everything down. Then the guy in front of me in the left lane was doing 60 while the rest of the cars in the left lane were doing probably 80 or so. Probably a kilometer of empty road in front of him but couldn't get around because of 4 way flasher guy.

I copped out of the 401 today and took the 407, after being behind all the slow-***es on the 401 past the airport. 407 was a nice 80km/h cruise :) (2WD FTW!)

There are plenty of people with snow tyres that still drive amazingly slow. Driver training is the only remedy.

Not looking forward to the drive home :(

I used to be like that. Then I did a 360 on the 401, at 100 kph. Now I just get into the faster right hand lane, and try to chill out.
Learn from my mistake.

I had no plans of pushing the limit this morning, but 70 Kmh was definitely safe for the conditions. The problem is that when you have one driver going that slowly in the centre lane, it also slows down the other two lanes. Don't believe me? Drive regularly on The Gardiner for a while and watch where the blockages begin.

About a month ago I had a flat tire. Went to the shop to fix it, and got offered a set of snows (for free)... so hey why not, particularly after following this thread.
So I have owned the truck for 12 years and this is the first time it has had snow tires.
The thing is stuck in my driveway... for the first time in 12 years.

Is there gas in the tank?

LMAO! I have never been stuck with my lowered car with all season. I have Yokohama Avid Envigor tires. Great in snow, wet and dry.

Hope you guys with your "all" season tires enjoyed yourselves today. I saw some of you on the news, spinning wheels, getting stuck in the middle of the road on a slight incline.

I was doing fine on my way home along Bloomington and #48, going 80 whenever I could pass the slow pokes.

And, as I indicated earlier, I did my drive to work and home in an unfamiliar vehicle, with all season tires. No problems. Not on ramps, highways, or city streets.

And did you find them as capable in the snow as your own car with snow tires?

My experience was that going from all season to snow tires was as noticeable an improvement as going from 2WD to 4WD.

With snow tires and 4WD, I made other drivers look foolish today.

Given that the car in question had traction control, yes.

Traction control doesn't help in this weather, it's better to turn it off especially with the unplowed streets we had Downtown today.

If you think an all season tire is as capable as a winter tire today i dunno what to say except puff, puff, pass. :)

Winter tires are mandatory on all our company vehicles. I find a big difference from all seasons.

My experience today tells me different. On the other hand it took thousands of dollars worth of hardware to equal a simple change of tires.

AWD + traction control off, and this is me today :D

Can you even drive like that?
