Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

Not really a "straw man" when SunnY starts talking about what people intake into their own bodies. Anyway carry on.

Me and my lowered car with all seasons tires made it through all the s--t from the past two weeks. I laugh at winter tires!

That's because acura and you are the greatest two things ever created. Reality says though winter tires are nice to have. Not everyone is the world's leading driving expert such as yourself. Some take comfort knowing they have winter tires on

We've had next to no snow this year so that's not surprising. I went out the day after the ice storm and the roads were great, assuming you're able to figure out how to drive around fallen trees, lol.

You do realize winter officially started, oh, about 7 days ago, right?

I was simply saying that his example of getting around on all seasons for the whole 7 days of winter is a moot point.

More blowing snow expected to make for another treacherous day on the roads

-Another blast of snow and high winds today is likely to add to what has already been a treacherous weekend on Ontario's highways and byways.
-
stranded more than 400 people northwest of Toronto in their cars.
-
OPP say that since Friday evening they've responded to more than 1,600 crashes, including three fatal, and numerous personal injury wrecks.
-
Eight OPP cruisers have also been struck by passing motorists resulting in minor injuries to two police officers.

I don't like mandatory anything, because the bureaucrats usually manage to screw it up. But ... winter tires have been a good thing to have for the last little while.

Continental ContiProContact "all season" tires are garbage in snow (and not very good at much of anything, other than being as hard as rock and lasting forever), but their winter tires seem pretty decent.

I'm still not getting it about the mandatory thing. I do get specific use tools are better than general purpose tools for a specific task. That's proven.
I'll go out on a limb and guess most people on M/C forums are some kind of motoring enthusiast. I happen to enjoy a good drive, motorcycle and car. Testing the dynamics of the vehicle is part of that. Whether on a motorcycle in the summer or car in winter it's pretty obvious the vehicle, using general purpose tires, will stick to the road even when driven beyond responsible motoring. What more do you need?
The case can/will be made that a vehicle can always be made safer and somebody will be only be to happy to push for another law.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where all this is heading.

Mandatory rain tires in the spring and fall... for house wifes and Sunny's civic. Those civics easily spin out, even on warm summer roads.

After the incredibly unnecessarily slow drive into work this morning, I was really wishing they were mandatory. Also, why do people insist on driving between lanes in the snow so no one can get around them as they do 40 kph on the merge ramp onto the 401?

Problem with making them mandatory is you'll have the same problem as Quebec. A lot of people can't afford two sets of tires so they end up driving on winters year round. A winter tire that has been driven in the summer becomes pretty useless in the winter, and still useless in the summer

Edit: Most people I saw this morning driving super slow had winter tires. Winter tires aren't going to change peoples' skill level

The most dangerous thing I saw on the roads these past weeks were people driving without their headlights on at night.
You cannot see these people from the rear and its worse they have a layer of dirt/grime. Yes, some had snow tires on.

Ever seen a black car with no lights on at night

See that all the time. Just more proof that more interventionist technology on cars, a certain percentage of the population will just dumb down to suit. Same mindset as stepping off the curb without looking when the walk signal beckons.

I love the meth heads on Cannon. They look west then GO.

That is funny. It would be more funny if they were run over by a GO bus full of meth heads. Hamilton, you gotta love it.
