Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

I was doing at least 80km/h on the 400 around 12:30am Sunday at the height of the snow fall while most others where doing 40-50. My Acura is lowered and with all season tires. Most of drivers had puzzled looks on how I could drive so fast.....noobs! :lmao: Even the guys on 4x4 trucks had a hard time keeping up with me...

And what are you going to do when one of these dummies spins out and comes directly into your path? they'll be doing 40, you'll be approaching at 80km/h...

Pretty sure this was the outcome of the wreck where 2 people got airlifted off the 401/mavis when they spun out, hit the guard rail and a truck still hit them with enough force to pretty much destroy the car.

You have to be aware of your surroundings and be prepared for "what if"...

Saw a winner in a tractor trailer yesterday do 100km/h on the 401 around midnight when everyone else was putting around at 60-70. This ****** almost hit me when changing lanes, and im hoping there was a ditch with his name on it somewhere down the road.

Driving in this city is truly a ****ed up experience.

I don't mind people driving a little slower (within reason) when conditions are less than ideal, but what i DO mind is the absolute ignorance and incompetence that people display in selecting a lane to putt-putt in

on my drive to work this evening, there was an absurd amount of grandmothers in the left lane doing 85-100 and yet the far right lane had a few trucks spaced out every couple KMs... people driving line abreast on the 401 at 90 km when the only snow/slush present was on the shoulder... I really don't understand why people are so damned afraid of the right lane on the 401... I've never seen so many oblivious left lane bandits that absolutely refuse to change lanes into the middle or right and are content with holding up every one else who isn't petrified of winter driving

I could probably go 150 kph on the 401 in heavy snow with summer tires in a lowered car. That doesn't mean I'm going to be able to stop or steer...

Which is why you see so many 4WD vehicles in the ditch, during winter. It's great for getting you going faster, but loss of traction is loss of traction.

I keep my truck in 2wd. 4wd is for getting myself unstuck, or when I need to accelerate hard out of a slick spot in the winter, then I put it back in to 2wd. Plus it's not awesome for your truck to be doing 100+ with the 4wd locked in if it wasn't designed for that.
Limited slip rear end is almost all you need in a rwd vehicle in most conditions.

I just shudder at the wear on the vehicles that people drive everywhere in 4WD.

+1.

90% of the time im not engaging the 4x4 unless needed.

Knowledge of how your car reacts in snow is the key to keeping out of trouble. My lowered car will react better than a tall SUV any day and in any condition on the road.
I kept my momentum up during up my whole time on Saturday. I looked far ahead and just let off the gas instead of using brakes. Scanning the road and mirrors is vital.

99% of everyone I saw had a death grip on their wheel and looked like they have tunnel vision. All the close calls I saw were from Pickup/SUV drivers you thought their vehicles were lighter than they thought. That Saturday drive just solidified my thoughts that cars are far superior to SUV’s.

Normally what you write is idiotic, but this part is actually bang on.

Watch the video of the 50 care pile-up in Wisconsin and it's painfully obvious that a lot of drivers don't look far enough ahead.

Good god you're so full of **** your eyes are floating....

I spent 12 hours on the road on sat, majority of vehicles in the ditches were cars, not SUVs, CARS, FWD run of the mill sedans and econoboxes.

Lets have a little meet up, my Grand Cherokee vs your POS rusted out acura and we'll do a course consisting of accelerating, turning and breaking. I will hand you a thousand dollars if you do better than my SUV. I will let GTAM and this post stand by my call out.

I owned a RWD BMW's, Volvos and Mustang, a FWD Golf, Maxima, and Two Civics and now i own a 4x4 Grand Cherokee and NONE of those vehicle even on winters came close to the stability that the GC is showing. I have to be a total idiot behind the wheel and actually TRY to make it loose traction before it steps out of line.

That's the thing though, winter tires are really not much extra cost.

You can either drive 100% of the time on all seasons and wear them out in a few years, or you can drive 50% on all seasons and 50% on winters and they both last twice as long. The only thing that really cost me extra to have winters were the steel wheels, and they were cheap.
This is the reason why I just installed Winter tires on my Wife's SUV - The cost is initial but it will even out in the long run

I just sold my 4x4 and bought a civic a couple mounts ago because i commute so much... Even with good snow tire's on it.. i hate it in the snow!!, i feel so unsafe...it weights nothing that's the problem.....

LMAO...I called our city the most socialist city in the world with the biggest housing bubble 2 years ago, and just now most of you agree with me.
As for the winter tires. Do you need it now that the city has been cleaned up?

Oh god...when I read this, this comes to mind. Are new to the interwebs? So much anger that it's REALLY sad.

Most??? really? where is that? I don't agree with it and I will say that most people don't agree with you judging the posts on the thread where we are discussing that.

I just dont like Trolls who hide behind their keyboards spewing ********.

99% of drivers....right, you're the 1 in 100 cars thats gods gift to driving? GMAFB.

More WIN in Toronto. Seems like most drivers like to put around 40-50KMH on the highway for safety. Oke... but they sit on each other's *** with less than one car length. Left lane drivers that go 80KMH+ seem to allow proper distance and they move out of the way someone comes behind them.

I stay off the highway when it snows. I take the empty backroads. I can drive way faster without anyone around me, and grip is better anyways on snow covered country roads than on frozen plowed highways.
