Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

Yes, only he does it for free, and the garage charges 20$ per wheel plus tax.
I guess i should say "we", i'm another smart person with 2 sets of wheels per car. ;)

I used to change my own tires aswell.. not too bad. But my mechanic changes them for 25$ flat.

I have a set of Nokian all weather tires on my civic. They are better than my old all season tires, going to see how they fair against my wife's winters this year. Mind you I have never had a problem with all season tires in my 17 years of driving in Toronto and I generally drive 30 KM to 50 KM one way to work. Figured I am moving to the boonies so I should make the upgrade ... well at least for my wife.

I've heard good things about the Nokian WRG2. Just not sure if their 215/65/15 would fit the car and ideally I'd like to go even wider for summer grip. I know 215/60 fit as I had them on the car last. Hard to get information since there's only one or two brands of 15's that even fit the car so people haven't done a lot of experimenting. Of course if I just left the stock 17's on they sell them in the stock size but I like the extra sidewall for pot holes, fields, and of course our crappy Toronto roads.

You need 4x4. I drove in the ditch all the way to work.

phhhsstttttttt winter tires ...

Pfff, just take the fire truck. You don't need no winter tires when it's 50 tons

Wider for summer grip makes sense, but you want narrower for winter grip (that's probably why ken's dually is a disaster in the snow).

Put good summer tires on the 944 and use it as a summer car, leave winters on the wrx and use it for tossing around in the snow, problem solved and no more spare tires to store. Can a wrx even be remotely fun in the summer without being in 172 territory?

Fair enough but I need the WRX for summer camping trips. 944 just won't hold 4 people plus baggage. I used it for just myself and my gf a few times the first year I got it, though. Plus it needs some work so I've got it off the road right now. For winters on both I just had my custom rally rims made to fit both cars.

That is the tire I have and the reviews seemed good from my perspective. So far I have no regrets.

That's what I found having some pretty wide tires on that were snow rated, my real winter tires were narrower on that truck. Instead of just floating on the snow with the larger contact patch, I was able to bite in.

I rode my jeep one winter with mudders that had a 10.5 inch width, scarest thing in hard pack snow. On steeper inclines I started to slid down hill.

Out and about today in a winter storm running errands in my Blizzak-equipped Jeep. Fender benders everywhere, vehicles struggling to get going at intersections or crawling along at 20 km/h with a line of traffic behind them as they struggle to keep their 1/2 worn, 3-season tires on the road. Clueless twats...

Hamilton to Trenton and back today on 1/2 worn 3 season tars. No problem for me but, dyam, yous GTAers gotta get it together, man. And whats with the no lights on in snow storm? Is everybody just tarded up these days or what?

Can we get a vote of all those with "no season" tires who got stuck and those with winter tires that got stuck?

Oh wait, might be a skewed poll since those who "really" got stuck might not make it home as yet

Ever heard of the word "aplomb"? That's with what I handled the drive today with no season tires.

gta is a strange place...

half the drivers today are doing 10 km an hour on the highway with the death grip on the wheel, the other half are doing 90km/h almost taking out the slow pokes...

Nope, but just because it doesn't happen to you it doesn't necessarily mean the statistics lie

I blame the combo of DRL's with well lit dashboards. Some just have no idea they aren't running full lights. IMHO DRL's should just be full lights (F & R) all the time. The only time you don't want 'em is @ the drive in and turning the e-brake on fixes that.
