i believe in winter tires so much, that my mothers Volvo has a dedicated summer and winter set. I swap them for her twice a year and i store her off-season tires in my shed for her.

I store my off season tires in my shed, sometimes in my 2 car garage, I could put them in my 1,200sg ft basement. The insanity of owning a huge over budget house is so I have a place to store my tires. Everyone should be mortgaged to the titts and over extended so they have a place for spare wheels. Wrong thread?

I have a set of winter and summer tires.. I drive a hatchback bimmer RWD. Without winter tires i wouldnt be going anywhere with any snow on the ground.

If anyone doubts winter tires....its only because theyve never driven with them
 
TMP has a winter advanced driving course. Thinking of signing me and the missus up. Has anyone taken one? For the TMP one you have to supply your own vehicle and have the tech inspection done by a licensed mechanic.

Ive got 4x4 AND winter tires! I just slip it into gear, point in the general direction i wanna go and take a nap.
Fences, ditches, smart cars, it goes through anything! :D

I did a skid control school. Maybe not the same thing you're referring to. It was kind of fun and a bit useful but not really worth the $450 or so price tag. Then again, the M2 exit course was around the same price and was probably less useful.

Yes, i'm pointing out the fact that i'm willing to inconvenience myself by storing the winter tires at my place and go through the trouble of swapping tires for a car that i dont even drive because i believe in winter tires that much. In fact, i'm the one insisting my mom stays on the two tire/wheel regiment while she wants to go to an all season tire. That is, until the first snow fall....

Yes, only he does it for free, and the garage charges 20$ per wheel plus tax.
I guess i should say "we", i'm another smart person with 2 sets of wheels per car. ;)

I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up. I actually usually run all seasons in the summer and winters in the winter. Although my WRX still has the stock tires for winter which I presume are proper summers but I've never looked them up. Also running too small of a winter tire on it right now since I had a brand new set of some Chinese crap snows for my Saab around.

I've been considering going to those "all weather" tires (with the winter snowflake symbol) instead and run them all year since between the 944, WRX, and RS125 I don't end up putting a lot of miles on any one vehicle and the tires usually get old and hard (or flat spots if I let one sit too long) long before I use up the tread when I've got separate winters for each car. Not sure how good they are, though. I'd also like to keep my rally rims on the WRX in the summer with the all weathers but can't find a wide (225) 15" all weather tire without going to a light truck/SUV tire which is probably too tall and not a great choice for the car (although I've seen some rally pics of the older models running LT tires).

The all weather tires seem like a good choice if you don't want to buy separate winters and still want the winter tire discount from your insurance company. At least a bit better in the snow than a regular all season but I've heard some models get greasy on really hot days.
 
winter tires are great, ive always had them an always will but the last thing i need is to be given a ticket because i didnt have time to change my tires out before the first snowfall.

I have a set of Nokian all weather tires on my civic. They are better than my old all season tires, going to see how they fair against my wife's winters this year. Mind you I have never had a problem with all season tires in my 17 years of driving in Toronto and I generally drive 30 KM to 50 KM one way to work. Figured I am moving to the boonies so I should make the upgrade ... well at least for my wife.
