Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

Why does it cost you to swap wheels out twice a year? Be a man, get out a jack and spend 30 minutes in the driveway.
What car do you own that you can't find steel wheels for? I had to buy aluminum wheels for my last truck for winter tires, but that's because that truck was far from stock and I needed special backspacing.

Show me where I said swapping wheels cost money. Tires yes, wheels no.

I own a nice (to me) limited edition car with factory oversize brakes. I checked for steel wheels and they are only offered in smaller diameters for the lower end models.

The excuse of costing too much money is BS.
Awesomely condescending post. I see, because you can justify the cost everyone else is stupid if they can't. By that logic you should send those people the money since that amount is nothing to you.

That's the thing today. People seem to want to judge everyone and everything only from the lens of their own context and experience. News flash. That context and experience often does not apply to many other people.

My Jeep was just recently rear-ended by a lady in a PT Cruiser. She went under the bumper and hit the hitch and muffler.

Just maybe, had she had on some decent winter tires, she would have stopped a foot or two shorter on the cold, wet asphalt and saved the both of us a lot of aggravation.

Only wankers insist on slicks in the rain. Oh wait, wrong thread.. its wankers yes, that insist on all seasons in the cold... yes that's what I meant to say. But I will say, when I grow up I hope to be one of the cool kids who have it all figured out regarding the devastating waste of money that winter tires represent!

The cost is negligible, that is what you and everyone else who make the same argument don't get.

If you shop around you can find some cheapo 18" aluminum wheels for $500 or so brand new, cheaper if you look for a used set. Then keep an eye on Kijiji and find a good set of used winter tires that will fit. A set of used tires in excellent condition would be $500, maybe less. You might even get lucky and find a used set of rims and tires that will fit your vehicle for maybe $700-$800.

Your winter tires and wheels will cost you $1100. If you're putting on 10,000km/year and roughly half of that would be with the winter tires they would still be in excellent shape even after 4-5 years. Here's the tricky part, you can sell them.... for $700-$800. And your summer tires will be in better condition than they would be otherwise.

I drive about 30,000km/yr. When I bought my Edge it had 70K km on it. It was February 2010 when I bought it and in November of 2010 the OEM tires were shot and due for replacement. I found a set of Dunlop Grandtrek winter tires on Kijiji that would fit for $350 and mounted them on the OEM 18" wheels. I have recently started my 4th winter with those tires and they are still in good shape, good for this winter and next winter at least. In the spring of 2011 I needed I got a set of 22" Helos with Nitto 420s tires off of Kijiji for $1100. I have used them now for 3 summers and the rubber is still good for at least another two years.

Where is this "extra cost" you speak of?

(awd baby)

So you've got a B7 or maybe B8 S or RS(insert number here). Limited edition? . Your claim that you can't get steel wheels for it is BS.

Ya just don't get it. Keep relating it back to your experience. Life on planet earth is about more than your experience. And GTA is not ON experience. And ON experience is not where I live either.

Look again at my mileage compared to yours and what it means to tire life and usage. And I won't sell clapped out crap to others.

On top of that you have no idea what my disposable income is. I just see hypocrisy.

As I said before, winter tires makes sense to many people, and it doesn't make sense to many people as well. Believe it or not, life is not black and white, although many would like you to believe it is.

Nope. Not them. I see a few steelie options for them. Seems you are trying to discredit me. Yup, limited ;), and I've even seen the car cost more for used now than when new, which is crazy. This info was never to talk it up, it's no porsche, rather to present true info my experience, which is obviously different from others, which is the point I've been trying to make. I've done my research on the car and fitment for winter and wheel options. Alas I haven't found any steel wheels for it. And have never ever seen an owner with such either.

I'll say it again. People seem to want to judge everyone and everything only from the lens of their own context and experience. News flash. That context and experience often does not apply to many other people.

You can keep coming up with excuses not to do it. It all boils down to the fact that you simply don't care enough to do it. That's it.

The money excuse is invalid, your particular driving model doesn't change that. Do you even math?

You admitted yourself that you only drive 10K a year.
- Any tires you buy will still be in excellent condition should you go to sell them and worth good money.

Then you say that you won't sell clapped out crap.
- You just claimed that you only drive 10K a year, so how do tires become clapped out crap? See my response to the previous point.

Flip-flopping while you're trying to discredit my ideas makes your rebuttal ineffective. You simply don't think it's necessary but you're trying to come up with some justifiable reason why you don't want to get them. You can't even maintain a consistent argument for it either.

How about you just admit that you simply don't think they are necessary?

LOL, it seems you are so ignorant that you don't even know that tires age, whether they are in use or not. They have a finite lifespan. Time for you to learn something.

For those that don't care to read the links, the coles notes are to replace your tires every 6-10 years no matter what (there is no standard, but that range is recommended).

Do you know math? My 16 year summer/winter tire wear use is far far outside tire use age recommendations. Hence I'm throwing money away, plus I won't sell that old crap to some unsuspecting person. I guess I have some belief in morals and karma.

As mentioned before, it's about money. When I have it I have no problem spending. When I don't I need to be careful. And unfortunately, there are many ON residents who are have nots far worse than I. The middle class is pretty much dead.

"Limited edition, cant get steel wheels to fit over my big brakes" cant afford a second set of wheels + tires.

A truck doesn't have a trunk, easily overlooked in the fast paced world of internet humour I see. Thanks for tip just the same as I'm always looking to rationalize not buying proper equipment.

In case he drives a honda ridgeline, which does have a trunk and according to Wikipedia, meets the definition of a "pick up truck".

Wiki link..."A pickup truck, often simply referred to as a pickup or pick-up, is a light motor vehicle with an open-top, rear cargo area (bed)."

oem big brakes. It seems surprising to some people that finances can change overnight. But they can and do for many. I hope for an equally opposite change, soon please.

I'm tired of this ideology where people tell me/others what to do and what is best. I prefer the freedom to choose and to be accountable with my record. It seems the choice police want to make the decisions for us. Be careful, it is a slippery slope. I love to ride motorcycles. And that is frankly a much less logical choice and more dangerous than AS tires over winter tires, especially to the masses.

I didn't know you couldn't get steel wheels for a Corolla RR-4. :lmao:

Sorry, this is to fast paced for me, I meant to say boot and the guy in the pic is probably gay. Please come back Sonny all is forgiven.

Is that youtube video advertising the need for tires designed to stop in heavy feathers?
