Official 2012 Summer Olympic Games Thread

I think NBC plays that during the intro to their Olympic coverage. I don't think I heard it on any other networks.

I wanna party in the olympic village so bad :(

It's a long-*** article, but it's interesting af.

Oh yeah..they all do it..East Germany started it..state-sponsored doping. China was going it in the 90's..now they officially don't condone the program. Like I say..pretend all you want, all sports are doped..
I'm half-joking, but that gets me thinking: if everyone were to dope, would that even out the playing field? I mean, you coudl argue that some people respond to juicing/doping more efficiently than others, but I guess the same could be said about supplements or even training regimens.

It's a hypothetical scenario, but what if we were to just accept doping as a necessary evil?

Well..it's fundamentally wrong..it can really mess up your body, especially if they start at a young age (East Germans started at like 12 years old..). I'm really not that harsh on Lance Armstrong..I mean, he was competing against a bunch of guys who have subsequently confessed or been tested positive. Do you pack it in because you don't want to dope? I dunno..it's a tough dilemma. Check this out:

Just like with anything, some will benefit from doping more than others. For example, epo elevates the hematocrit (hct), so people with naturally high hct level won't benefit as much as people with naturally low hct.

Let's face it, a lot of the sports in the Olympics (sans doping) can really mess with your body, especially if you start at a young age. High performance is not always healthy. What about being like body building, having an open and natural categories (but for that you'd still need good doping control for the natural division). On a lighter note, badminton players get the axe for throwing matches: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/02/s...layers-disqualified-for-throwing-matches.html I think it's BS, the goal is to win the tournament (or place as high as you can), not win every single match.

I kinda agree with you. it's part of the strategy. the goal is to win the gold medal as long as they are not breaking any rules. I'm not sure if there's an explicit rule against trying not to win some of the matches... If there's no such rule like that, the ruling of tossing them out would be a total BS.

I understand that the "olympic spirit" argument, and I don't necessarily agree on what they have done. But tossing them out seems a bit too harsh in this case, unless the rule is explicitly written somewhere and is supposed to be known and followed.

"Sports" that shouldn't be in the olympics: dressage....wtf has horse dancing got to do with anything? Synchronized swimming....total rubbish. Beach volleyball....what the heck is wrong with normal volleyball besides the obvious? BMX racing.....tosh. Did I forget any?

Why don't we just have the porn olympics and be done with it then? 10,000 M dildo relay. The teabag race? "Pole" vault. Utter nonsense.

The question is, how are u gonna watch that with the family??

It's the Olympics Dudley ....everybody watches the Olympics...don't they? I always have.
Not into sports?

I just managed to catch the last minute of the game but one of Canada's player looked way and I mean way off side. Don't know why they won't allow video of it so I can review it better. Might be off a deflection or something but the game winning goal almost hit her like she was a goal keeper.
