Official 2012 Summer Olympic Games Thread

You mean just like Motorcycle racing in this country?

LOL, seriously, this country is a JOKE because of people like this ^

I was in Australia earlier this year, turned on the TV and watched MotoGP. And not just the MotoGP class. THey had were ever airing the Moto 3 class on regular OVER THE AIR TV! The same with cycling (A Canadian won one of the biggest races of the year, too bad no one in canada watched). In this country if it ain't Hockey, Basketball, or Baseball no one gives a **** and you can't even see it on TV. Maybe if they actually televised some track, cycling, etc. on tv people WOULD care.

This is why some of the top powerlifters in the country are broke while middle tier basketball players in the NBA are making millions.

Chicken or the egg? Pick a sport people actually watch if you want to make money. Nobody cares in this country about cycling..I knew that 30 years ago when I started racing. I don't think you can push the sport on the audience..they'll watch what they like. There's no money in televising cycling or weightlifting or donkey riding in North America..people are crying about the death of horse racing in North America..well, if nobody watches, what's the point?

You really want to get into a sports debate with me?

First off why even compare Australia with Canada? Is it the English thing? We're a f-ing ice sheet 6 months of the year while the Aussies are waxing surfboards throwing shrimp on the barbie year round. When you actually have the weather to play these “summer” sports it helps in their popularity, hence what we call summer sports are on Aussie regular TV. Its regular sports for them when you have summer all the f-ing time.

What do we have in Canada all the time. Ice & snow. Kind of makes sense why winter sports dominate here. When we finally get summer, we get the hell outside and not watch TV.

As for your crying rant of weight lifters...LOL, those juicers ruined the reputation and integrity for lifting for decades to come. Bravo.

Well, all sports have been ruined by juicers..it just depends what level of ignorance those who watch the sport enforce on themselves.. :-)

what sport are you in contention for? best of luck!

As for the Olympics, yeah I'll watch. I hope Canada does well. I know about the drugs, the money, the politics, etc. but I still enjoy it despite all that albeit slightly tempered. When Ben Johnson won gold, I was on top of the world, but when he got pinched for steroids, I was devastated. From then on, I knew it was basically a business.

Taking this thread back into a positive conversation.....

I do skiercross. New event that debuted at Vancouver. Canadians rock this sport and after the loss of two amazing athletes in the sport of skiing, Sarah Burke and Nick Zoricic .... we are going to be going extra strong in Russia to compensate the loss.

I'll watch the TT and the road race. Wiggins will most likely crush the competition in the TT. The roadrace course is fairly flat, so unless there's an early break that sticks, it will end up an elbows out, argy-bary sprint to the line between Cavendish, Greipel, and Sagan. I'm picking Cavedish. The women's road race will be worth a watch, if only to see how Clara Hughes does. The rest of it is fluff, for the most part.

Pretty much was going to post this. If you think there is less drugs in say the NFL or baseball than Oly' Lifting than LOL Plus, I was only using weight lifting as an example. I have no bias towards cycling or olympic power lifting since I don't participate in either, not even recreationaly.

I realize that "Summer" sports are more popular in Australia but when I was in the UK it was the same thing; MUCH more variety when it came to sport coverage on TV. I mean they show Curling here and no one watches that crap either.

Loved the opening ceremonies. I am up super early to watch the games this morning.
I was hoping that David Gilmour of Pink Floyd would have made an appearance but that was too much to hope for. Paul McCartney was fantastic.

Spoiler Alert:

Vino!! That's kinda nice to see..wonder if doping control will bust him??

Sure, some of the sports are not that exciting. I am the first to say Ice Dancing can go to hell but some of the old traditional games are pretty neat. If a sport only gets televised once every 4 years, I'm going to watch it.

Put the games down all you want. I'll still love and support them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion so I wont bash anyone who chooses to dislike the games. I like being happy and cheerful. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I am with you 100%. Go Canada. Go the World. Forget the hate and love the love.

Thanks for the posting. She looks absolutely amazing, happy, beautiful and I bet she goes to sleep with a smile on her face. Full of personality. Wow.

Paul McCartney was fantastic.

Really? I kinda felt sorry for the old guy, fumbling his way through the opening of Hey Jude like that. Mike Oldfield, however, was epic.

Spoiler Alert:

Glad I stay the hell away from SkyBet. ;)

It's all a matter of who's doctor miscalculated their dosages/timing (cough, cough, Tyler Hamilton, cough)

I always laugh when people say there isn't a drug problem in North American sports..or in soccer..like, seriously? Let's see, you're signing contracts for millions of dollars..and nobody thinks there's the probability that someone would dope? So naive...
