I hung out with Kevin the service manager there for years . Great guy , I could never understand why he would live at his cottage and commute into Toronto , but when you get a new Jag and a gas card , game on lol.Yes I did. Worked there for 7 years. For now we’re not going to do anything. Wife says she doesn’t want another car for the house so I’m happy with the VW. If time (and nerves) allow I’ll take her to the Winston Churchill business area, grab a coffee, and leave her with the VW to practice on quiet roads with no traffic. I don’t want to witness the clutch burning so I’ll wait around.I wouldn’t change from the Volks to any of the remaining choices. VW over the Mazda for sure. Other than EV petro savings, don’t see the benefit of switching the VW to Korean. None really provide more versatility/utility over what you have.
Thats just me. It’s Monday. Just returned to work after a week off so, that could be a factor. lol.
Only Kevin I remember was the GM that ran the company for a while. Keep in mind I left there in approx 2005-2006 or so. I still keep in brief touch with some of the staff, but my sister bought an XC90 from her old sales manager as she worked there also.I hung out with Kevin the service manager there for years . Was this the Jag dealer? Remind me never to buy from them. Then again, the only Jag I'm interested in they're discontinuing, so it may be moot. And that's when a 50 year old man grabbed me (a late 20s man) by the throat and put me on my back on my desk 'listen you little ****, I told you the deal and that's who they were. So f- off and figure it out'
Called the Sales Manager after I left, and he said 'ok I'll deal with it'.
He didn't deal with it. The guy was literally the #1 salesman in the country for 10 years in a row. He could do no wrong.
Left the business shortly thereafter.
Then yes, same Kevin. Great guy and I liked working with him.Kevin was actually the GM in his last roles , he was service first . We teased him about still being the service manager , since Jag had such a stellar reliability rep. I helped install the new reception desk , that would have been around 26-08 ish .
Love those supercharged V8s from Jag.I would own another jag if it was not a daily driver . Head gasket on our supercharged v8 was $2500. Not at the dealer , pothole chipped a rim , 4 new custom rims cost less that 1 jag wheel. At 60,000kms my mechanic said , you don’t want to own this car in the next 20k kms . Bought at 28k kms sold at 59,k loved it for 4yr occasional use .

Same. There's a Jag mechanic (private) on County 28 just south of Peterborough and he's got a bunch sitting out front looking fine.Love those supercharged V8s from Jag.
My fav has always been the S-Type R (fastest car I ever took out up to 220kph), and the XJR and XKR are beautiful.
I have a Maverick hybrid. Great little commuter with a few drawbacks (Fischer price interior, seriously dated infotainment even compared to my 2017 RS Focus, others). It's boring like an appliance Toyota but for commuting in bumper to bumper I can't complain with the fuel mileage. Long wait time now + increased pricing , plus less features offered for 2024 vs 2022-2023 models. I waited exactly 12 months Sept 2022 received in September 2023. The EcoBoost is much easier to get and comes with AWD. No AWD on hybrid.Don’t want to take away from the EV thread so thought I’d just start a new one.
While I really like the GTI 2021 6MT with 25k on the clock I feel it’s not filling the need that the family has right now as a second car. It’s great for me…but effectively prevents wife from using it as she’s not thrilled about the manual transmission.
So looking for something in a similar, or more usable setup.
Budget: 30-35k (ideally with warranty and hopefully winter tires)
Preference: EV
Secondary: anything that’s eligible for green plate
Fuel economy is second to usability
AWD not necessary
Would like it to tow 1000-1500lbs (more the better).
Doesn’t need to sit 3 kids as not much will fit criteria for that in this budget / size (not really interested in another minivan.
Vehicles under consideration:
Primary vehicles under consideration
Bolt EV/EUV
KONA EV
Secondary vehicles under consideration
Nissan Qashqai (parents have one)
VW Golf Sportwagen / Wagon (def out of warranty)
Nissan Rogue
Toyota RAV4H ($$$$$$)
Honda Accord Hybrid
Toyota Camry Hybrid
Ford Maverick Hybrid
Subaru Crosstrek
Honda Civic (new ones are as big as older Accords)
EDIT: forgot the V60 from Volvo but repair and reliability are a concern for me
Same goes for a BMW 330xi. It’s an attainable dream car for me but $$$$
I’m sure there are others out there, but those pop into mind first.
Thanks all! Always great discussions here.
Well depending on the years I could have been your car jockey, parts advisor, service advisor or salesman. Did all those roles during my time there.Ours was an XJR . Huge , fast , limousine ride . Not a daily driver once out of warranty. Not on my budget anyway

Nice! Good to hear another review. Reddit is in love with the truck, but any dedicated sub is full of fan boys that won’t see negatives!I have a Maverick hybrid. The CVT in the hybrid is an eCVT planetary gear set. No pulleys or cable bs. Basically the Toyota eCVT used in Toyota hybrids. Not too worried about longevity.
I can see why your wife doesn't want one lol. My wife won't drive it either even though it's only 12 inches longer than our Stinger. I try to convince her it drives like a car/cuv, and it does, but she's not biting. I'd rather she kick the crap out of the Maverick. It's hard being a car/motorcycle person .
Any Mazda would catch my eye at the moment.

I found a nice Hybrid in Barrie but the price today, for a 2 year old truck, is more than what it was brand new…thanks but no thanks.
Hot market or not…I’m not paying 4K above new price for a used car…

I agree. I've never seen the Reddit stuff. I much prefer Mavericktruck club forum. You can see some associated problems with them.
Used is sometimes more than new, especially with the Maverick. The used car market in Canada still has not come down as compared to our friends south. Still alot of gouging going on it's ridiculous to be honest. Sigh.
Working at the dealer there were perks. Namely dating girls and driving them around in jags that weren’t mineF-n ballers in this thread with the R cars.
Regular S-Type and XJ8 VdP here. But from decades ago...
FTFYOnly the brave own jags and land rovers...outside of warranty
