Why would Honda care who wins out of the two Yamahas?
History, both recent (you know...) and past (Rossi leaving Honda), would dictate to me that Honda would rather see Lorenzo win than Rossi.

I was thinking more about Anthony West's post about how much he sacrificed to be there and how he'd never simply let someone through.
I can realistically say that in CSBK I am about as competitive as West is in motoGP. Neither of us are going to be at the front, mid pack would be a great achievement for both of us. In our respective series were are similar in how competitive we are.
With that said, there's no way I would try to race with someone if they were a championship contender and had to start behind me due to penalty. We're in the same race but we aren't. They don't belong with me and I don't belong with them. If I was in that position I can say with 100% certainty that I would let them through, then get down to business racing against those who I do belong with.
That's debatable.

Interesting perspective. I can see the older, established riders agreeing with you. They are aware of their racing abilities and limits. The younger racers that are still trying to find their place may not be as receptive to that idea.

....Marquez really didn't have anything to gain by racing Rossi that hard as his riding future is already secured for a few years, ....
If CSBK was your main income-or let's say your day job i would believe your thoughts would be very similar to Ant West.
Someone on the bubble who doesn't have a guaranteed seat for next year shouldn't be just moving over for him.
Marquez really didn't have anything to gain by racing Rossi that hard as his riding future is already secured for a few years, and that's probably what has troubled most of the rossi fan boys.
I'd imagine that it would be an easy pass for Rossi anyway. But to purposely change your line to let him through? (ala Free practice).
Okay sure, let's just remove half of the grid while we're at it.
If you/we think the backlash against MM is pretty harsh, can you imagine if a backmarker wiped Rossi out of the race while trying to "compete" with him. I think that would be worse for their career than letting Rossi through. Who's going to continue sponsoring a rider that everyone loath's? At least MM has enough of his own followers to weather the storm.Good point, Jayv. Alot of these back markers are fighting for seats. They know they can easily be replaced.
Also, knowing full well you're racing for your sponsors and your team, would you change your line to let someone pass you? Tough call in this situation.
This is not to say that you should be 'scrapping' with Rossi as that would be fruitless especially if you're usually fighting for 15th.
Do we still know for sure that the penalty applies and that Rossi is starting from the back? I thought he appealed the ruling and that until that appeal is heard the penalty is nullified?
Another pretty good writeup of the Rossi/Marquez/Lorenzo dynamic:
