Better question - why is the gov't employing software developers?

I can see some need in 'secret stuff'', but why aren't these applications or services contracted to the private sector?

Gov't is not supposed to be in competition with the free market. They should be focused on doing stuff that's not feasible or so unique it's not practical to contract out.
They contracted out the arrive can app. That managed to grow to $56M. I don't think that we should be encouraging them to contract out more.

or contracting the administering of 20,000 scholarships to WE for $19.5M

I have to actually go to the post office. It was fun listening to the whiners about losing door to door.......

In the last 4 months... I received 7 pieces of mail that were addressed to me.. and I didn't open any of them... bills I already paid.
I got hundreds of flyers and adverts from real estate agents... that all go straight into recycling.
I am thinking to just put a recycling bin in place of my mailbox.

Does this apply to just the federal government or trickle down all the way to municipalities?

I'm genuinly curious, tell me more!!

Only the most noble. Lesser nobles aren't directly involved unless they are dependent on paper flow to or from the more noble. In that case they have nothing to do but play video games at full scale.

All govts are generally responsible for maintaining, defense, foreign affairs, the economy, and delivery of public services.

There are no rules that say govt should not compete with the private sector, but good governance relies on govt staying in their lane and not competing with private enterprise.

It would be a rough road to make it work but stop monopolies from killing the individual. A huge percent of retail is a monopoly. How many independent grocery stores are around? Hardware stores? Home builders?

Governments are monopolies and as with the others some reining in is needed. I will cede COLA but if you want more money do more work or do so more efficiently. Especially when the private sector doesn't have the perks and security.

Some would think that makes me a commie but look at our deservedly disgraced ex mayor Tory.

He campaigned to privatizing garbage collection but backed off when the union and workers came up with ideas for increased efficiency. Why didn't the union and workers make the suggestions before the threat of privatization?

Answer: Because they didn't have too. Tory chickened out as will our federal government.

In the true private sector employees are encouraged to make suggestion for improvements.

In angus, psac set up their picket lines across public roads as public didnt pay attention if they blocked base access. Military doesnt deal with them as they are off base. Apparently cops were called to tell picketers to f off and get off the road.

My refund showed up in my account last night . Yeah Baby!!

Frak i havent done my taxes yet. Apparently I have until June due to my wife’s business. But will try and finish it this weekend.

This strike isn’t getting much support in the news that I’m reading.

Most of the press has been the government and unions talking about how necessary these employees are and we need them to get back to work. Meanwhile, the people paying for the services dont care they arent working (except for passport renewal).

I got in just under the wire having my passport renewed. Took the application & photos into the Service Canada office at the Pen Centre in St. Catharines a week ago last Thursday and my passport arrived registered mail last Wed (1st day of the strike). 6 days processing time including a weekend. Did not pay for any rush service either. I was shocked it was that fast!

Watching the news. Some self entitled striker prick being interviewed was lamenting about it not being fair that a double earning household grossing only $90-120K can't afford a mortgage in Toronto. Next soundbite was the news anchor reporting that seniors' Old Age Pensions will most likely be delayed. What's that Bruce Cockburn song again? The title escapes me. Something-something-something-something-something Launcher.

Just saw a headline about all of the public servants working from home that now have to get dressed and hit the picket line. HA HA HA
This right here is what my buddy in the Feds was telling about his underlings, they all want work from home now, and do less than before. They don't even want to go into the office 2 days a week, which is what the gov in his dept is asking them to do, and he's getting push back on that. He tried to remind them, none of them lost a hour of pay during the pandemic.

We’ve got the same issue at our place. Everyone is trying to resist the 2 days in the office being mandated.

I’m ok with it. One of my direct reports said that if I make him go in more often he’ll quit.

Both me and my director looked at him and said ‘ok, no problem’.

He wasn’t expecting that response to his threat. There’s 100+ people willing to take his place.

Now psac is calling on JT to speed up negotiations. Wtf. When do you call the enemy commander two days into a fight where neither side has had many casualties (unless they are in fact your friend).
