More than 120,000 federal public servants across Canada, has voted in favour of a strike

It's true, CRA federal job group SP-01 only starts off at $41,658....

And this is what the managers supposedly make..

Even after going into student debt with a STEM degree you don't make much more ...

ENG1 starts off at $49958 uhhhh...

CS-1 starts off at $64504 uhhh.

No wonder they are so fed up :)
I mean…they could always just you know…change jobs…

But that takes effort and you need to perform.

Just saw a headline about all of the public servants working from home that now have to get dressed and hit the picket line. HA HA HA

You are assuming there are employees hired to those paygrades. Sp1 is opening mail, grade 10 education requirement, many large operations have paygrades with no employees- they keep them for temp employees.

CRA entry level jobs for those with a grade 12 education and no employment experience starts at $58k and go to $66k after 5 years. A call center rep, typical entry level job, at a big Toronto company starts at $42k. That's 40% above the national average... and in Sudbury.

I'm not yet feeling sorry for CRA workers.

House prices the GTA can only dream of with starter ones far cheaper. Snow blower extra.

That's exactly what's happening where I work.
Why would a software developer with 3 years work experience (so mid level) stay and make ~$70k. They can leave for the private sector to make $100k+. All the talented folks are leaving and my mentors stink :(

Yes, but many don’t leave because the govt job is ‘easy’ and secure, and the pension.

Pick your poison. I know plenty of guys, myself included, where we get calls every few weeks to jump to the private sector.

Had I not gotten this recent promotion a few weeks ago I would’ve been all over it.

But now the salary, benefits, pension, and work-life balance work pretty good for me.

I’ve yet to experience this special govt job that pays well and requires no work, but I’m quite happy being busy all day long dealing with issues.

It looks like the biggest impact for citizens will be passports will not be mailed out. Everything else just happens slower and it would be hard for us to tell the difference between employees with no performance requirements and no employees.

"is dependent on how bargaining with the Liberal government goes"

Liberal Government: "How much do you want?"

Union: "Lots and more special interest days off."

Liberals: "OK" Memo to supply services: Order more ink and plastic paper.

Just look how happy your mailman is.

Just look how happy your mailman is.

Happiest man I ever met was a postie many years ago.

‘You look like the happiest guy ever’
‘Sure am. Wake up, go work, start my route quick, take my daughter to school, finish my route. Go for a motorcycle ride. Have coffee and sex with my wife, and then pick up my daughter from school.

Go on vacation and I keep accumulating days as I’m on vacation.

What more could I ask for in life?’

We were just lowly car salesmen at the time. And we admired that happy man each day.

Hope he’s still as happy as he was 20 years ago.

I’m on a superbox, I have no clue who my mailperson is anymore.

I have to actually go to the post office. It was fun listening to the whiners about losing door to door.......

A strike would save Canadians about $200M/week in payroll costs, nevermind the expenses saved too.

Here's a cool fact: Unions want WFH entitlements built into their contracts. But only while collecting from the public purse -- No WFH allowed! if you want to collect Strike Pay.

I say let them strike!

Will we save anything? Liberal governments have a history of paying unions inordinately large amounts after a strike to ensure that the strike cost the union nothing. It's such an ass-backwards way of thinking it is hard to comprehend but I guess I shouldn't expect better with politicians and unions as the two parties arguing over how to waste our money.

Better question - why is the gov't employing software developers?

I can see some need in 'secret stuff'', but why aren't these applications or services contracted to the private sector?

Gov't is not supposed to be in competition with the free market. They should be focused on doing stuff that's not feasible or so unique it's not practical to contract out.

I think the term for this is Pandering.

I'm executor of my mom's estate. Apparently I can only mail the final return (instead of e-filing) and cant disburse the assets until I receive the final clearance. God knows when that will be now. f'ers !!
