Money = Success? Moved from Pannon Thread

I'm not blathering on about how I go home early to see my family and we don't understand that money isn't important but love and children are. Money doesn't bring happiness but mindless Internet crap and smoking do?Quit smoking and lay off the Internet garbage if family and children are so important to you.

So from my 2 a day posting you've decided that i am wasting too much time on internet crap and not spending enough time on my family......lol

You are right about the cigarette part, but you should also lay off the stuff your smoking.

LOL of course they're not!

Yeah, I think this is a good time to for me to just back away slowly.

Come on, all jokes aside...seriously you dont honestly believe that freedom and happiness ARENT intrinsically linked do you?

Your right, money doesnt come on its own...how a person gets it, the priorities they may have in order to acquire it, and what they feel is enough can vary as much as there are people on this planet. But the constant remains money.
Constant for what? Infinite grief trying to get more of it?

Constant for what? Infinite grief trying to get more of it?

As in money is the constant that is used to acquire things in the world we live in. And you assume that everyone feels grief in the pursuit of it.

You were the one who said unlimited cash flow GUARANTEEs happiness, not me. Because I understand that nothing in this life is ever guaranteed.

See now if you had money you would be able to get a better level of education (and hopefully some better spelling) and you'd be able to grasp that.

And I am still waiting for you to give up all your money and live happily ever after.

Who needs a better education?
You dont ever understand the meaning behind "money cant buy you happiness" and im the one who lacks understanding.

Why should I give up my money? Because I face problems in life that money cant solve?
I make enough that money is not an issue.

Therefore, money DOES NOT equal happiness.

So if money and are the same thing, then how does money not equal happiness? You still havent proven anything other than money can buy you things.

You know, just throwing it out there, a friend of mine from a former East-bloc country says they actually miss Communist rule and all that entailed..they said, at least everyone hated the government together and there was a happiness in feeling together about it. Now they all hate each other and as they try to cut each other's throats to make money. Make of that what you will.

$100 I can make last a month whereas others $100 goes through in a day and they have their hands out asking for more.

Who's the successful one?

To me it's the one that can stretch their money the furthest. Doesn't matter how much you make. A person making $30k can be just as successful as a person making $100k if they all have the same house, family, stable jobs, cars, etc... Than there are those that make over $100k and are in piles of debt.

So no money does not equal success if you don't know how to properly manage it. It may bring temporary relieve of happiness but when that's gone what's next? That's why success is not only defined by money but has many other factors in that equation (family, jobs, house) for one to fall back on.

What am I supposed to take from this? Should I tell you about a Chinese friend of mine that hated living under communist rule in that country? Are we going to go back and forth with more "I know a guy"?
Also "Freedom" in a political/national sense is an extremely short sighted view of the word.

This too.

If teaching was such a horrible grinding job, then why is it so difficult for qualified people to get jobs? Because there are 100x as many applicants as there are positions available? Hmm.. i wonder why that could be.
because ignorant people go into teachers college only thinking about the "free summers off". You guys have no idea of what you are talking about.
I did training for a full month and having to teach people, even less kids all day and having to prep for it was the hardest month I have had at work, I can't imagine doing it every day for life.

Success is relative to who is after it. One man's successes won't do a thing for another, and vice-versa.

I used to think o success solely in the terms of money...now I don't.
Experiences are the currency I long for. Life. Living. Sharing. Meeting people, broadening my hrizons and feeling things I am unfamiliar with. Getting outside my comfort zone and embracing new things.......and sharing all of these things with the people I love. If I can do this by life's end, and make a differnce in my loved one's lives, then all I have done has made me successful.

Because it's a job people are passionate about. Just like in racing and the film industry, people are passionate about what they do and are somewhat taken advantage of for it. They work retarded hours and likely travel most of the time fo very basic pay (unless they have a very specialised qualification). Teachers get somewhat taken advantage of too, but they put up with it because they give a **** about the future of their kids.

I know what you're thinking and yes, these jobs can be incredibly rewarding (and not $$$) but they genuinely do have their hardships too. Highs and lows. On balance teachers either choose to live with the lows for the sake of the highs, or they just get too cozy in their life to risk change, or they just bide their time until retirement. But it really does take a lot out of them, especially the good ones.

There is nothing stopping them from working exactly the hours they are supposd to and doing the minimum. If they work more hours that's up to them.

if a teacher has never teached a class/subject, meaning they dont have the lessons, the exams, the exercises, it is impossible to only work the assigned hrs.you sir are ignorant on this matter and should educate yourself on it before opening your mouth and offering an opinion.Go meet a teacher or read about it, don't just talk out of your *** and be hopeful your kids don't end up with a teacher that only works his schedule....or that you never have kids, that's my hope

Re: Thank you all - shop closing - pannon moto sports inc.

Success is relative.

I'm not reading 5 pages so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

Success for me is reaching the point where I don't have to worry about money anymore. But if that meant stepping on my family and friends and having nobody to spend my happiness with, then I'd say I wasn't all that successful.

Anyway, give me good food, beer and a view of the Atlantic in a summer climate all year and I'm good!

It's not that money does not equal happiness, it's that lack of financial stability equates to depression, poor education, lack of food, medical care, vision care, etc...

You may not have a wife, your kids may hate you, but hell you arne't making them starve to death while suffering from suicidal thoughts because you can't make ends meet.

loved this post.

Money may not make you happy but it sure gives you options that poor people don't have. And poverty does make you very very unhappy.

Also, about the long hours, I don't know anybody who makes a good living who isn't working hard. People are either working very very hard
or they are unemployed.

Because it's not enough time to do the job properly. To some extent there are some who make it harder on themselves than it needs to be, idealists maybe, or perfectionists. But for sure those who only work the required hours are doing a **** job.

Re: Thank you all - shop closing - pannon moto sports inc.

Interesting thread.... just a couple of observations and questions that are sure to inflame someone....
  • When did "everyone out for themselves" become a nobler concept than "we're all in this together" and "helping your brother"? Isnt that a bit of a narcissistic worldview that is likely to cause the income gap to widen and the devolution of our society?
  • If someone doesn't "get" the point you are trying to make, the fault lies with you and not the other person. There is little to be gained by resorting to bullying and denigrating the other person.
  • If you don't know how to spell or even the correct word to use, it might be best to NOT criticize the spelling and word use of other people.
  • How can you criticize others until you have walked a mile in their shoes?
  • If you think that having more money means you get "better" health care, then perhaps the USA is a society that better reflects your ideals. Au revoir! Write back in 20 years when your health isn't so great, you can't afford to buy medical insurance, and you are teetering on bankruptcy to pay your medical bills.
  • What is so wrong with making a decent living by working decent hours? Why should someone have to sacrifice their family, their health and ultimately their happiness by working too much? There is something drastically askew here.
Let the games carry on!

what does your contract say?
I've seen plenty of teachers work regular hours.......sure they did the class the year prior.

if you work for a good company in the USA which gets you great health insurance as I did, then yes you get better health care in the USA. When I showed them my insurance card I went to the front of the line. Had a surgery done there that they would not do in Canada. If your company doesn't give you health insurance like that you pay the difference and get it yourself (shouldn't be a problem with 100k).
Also, when you retire you get medicare through the govt, similar to Canada. If you lose your job you can always come back to Canada.

There are a lot of "ifs" there. On the other side of that coin, what if you lost that job (through company bankruptcy or whatever?) There goes your health insurance. If you had any previous medical issues, good luck finding affordable medical insurance. What if you hate your job, but you can't afford to leave it and find something else because the health insurance at another company is not as good as what you have? A lot of Americans talk about having the freedom to choose, but in a case such as this, that freedom may not present feasible options, so it becomes a prison.

It is all nice to say you can just come back to Canada, but what if that option was not available? Our system here is based on need, and not who has the fattest wallet. If your need for care warrants it, you go to the front of the line in Ontario as well.
