MAPLE LEAFS SUCK

The salary cap era exposes a poor managed team. The last decent Leaf to be drafted?? Wendel? No farm team help what so ever.

When Burke took over, it really was a fresh start, he can't spend a fortune trying to fix the problem of the previous management caused. Hence why he took a gamble with the Kessel trade.

Those past playoff teams survived by signing players whose shelf life was only a couple of years, and playing a Senator team that had no back bone......

Rask!!!
but i agree... we have terrible terrible scouting...

Cherry might be abrasive and annoying to some but he does know hockey and very well too.
Leafs were awesome 92 -94 and 99 - 04 recent eras. Poor direction/mangement at the top has always been the death blow of this team. Here in Ontario we have had most of the best players overall in the world and can't find any for our team? How blind is that? We are the centre of the universe so they say...wtf Brian Burke? This is Canada's team....we deserve so much more. Where's Wendel and Gilmour...Curtis...?

sorry, i completely disagree with you
What does/ has he done to show he knows hockey
i think he said crosby was going to be amazing back in the day... but so did my 14 niece...

Let's review the Leafs first picks for the last 20 years..
2010 - Brad Ross
2009 - Nazem Kadri
2008 - Luke Schenn
2007 - Dale Mitchell
2006 - Jiri Tlusty
2005 - Tukka Rask (as a side note, Phil Oreskovic was picked next by the Leafs...)
2004 - Justin Pogge
2003 - John Doherty
2002 - Alexander Steen
2001 - Carlo Coliacovo
2000 - Brad Boyes
1999 - Luca Cereda
1998 - Nik Antropov
1997 - Jeff Farkas
1996 - Marek Pozmyk
1995 - Jeff Ware (couldn't wait to throw that one out there..)
1994 - Eric Fichaud
1993 - Kenny Jonsson
1992 - Brandon Convery
1991 - Yanic Perreault
1990 - Drake Berehowsky

Looking back at it, a few of the players they drafted after 1998, when Pat Quinn started and things turned around a bit, actually turned into fair NHL'ers. Problem is, not many of them turned into much more than bottom-half NHL players. Before 1998..ouch..pure luck they got anyone at all.
So not the best scouting..not the best development..not the best trading record... I don't think the scouting was terrible..but they've had poor draft positions after trading away first rounders and they just didn't either pick or develop what picks they had all that well.

Hey we scored big on wendel Clark! Our best first pick ever and The greatest hockey player GOD ever created!

whom would you pin point it on then? we've drafted so many busts. If its not them, then who?

It's the fans. Seem obvious to you now?

It's the teachers! But now they're gone be interesting to see how Bell/Rogers do whatever they do I have no clue lol. But same with teachers did nothing. Would an individual owner make a difference?

It is all these forces. The problem with the leafs is they are run by a board that isn't thinking about how to win hockey games but all of the other sides of the issues like fan response (most leaf fans don't understand hockey it seems) and PR etc. I'd say Kadri is a prime example. Not the best pick to draft but a possible PR gold mine in such a diverse city as Toronto. They can get their hands into the pockets of new groups of fans. Its not wrong but it isn't focused on winning hockey games.

Don Cherry might be hammering you if you keep that up!!! :-)

But I agree with your statement. It's not one thing..it's a bunch of things.. Remember Larry Murphy?? Leaf fans ran him out of town, we paid 2/3rds of his salary to play in Detroit, where he was on their first defensive line and won 2 Cups. But nooooo..he can't play in Toronto..my goodness, we have great "fans"... :-(

It's got nothing to do with the teachers. They want to make money. They are making money, lots of it.

The fans however are putting down good money to watch an inferior product. Until that changes, nothing else will.

This cannot be emphasized enough.

Most leaf fans I know can't even afford to go see a game so I don't know if the fans would really effect the bottom line. Considering the entire lower bowl is owned by corporations I think that is where a good chunk of the lack of passion lies. Leaf games are the new boardroom to schmoose clients. Half the people down there aren't even watching the game. You have to hit the 300 level before you start to see real fan passion. The type of passion that is along the glass in every other arena.

Is there still a waiting list for seasons tickets?

Do people watch it on TV?

There are much better things to spend your hard earned money on, but the sheep are afraid that next year might be the year.

Yup..true enough.

I see how people believe that but honestly, if there weren't people in the building, they wouldn't be doing any better. We'd FEEL better..but the team would be just as crap..

I recall an interview Phil Espisito gave when he was the GM of the Rangers. What he noted was that most fans don't realize that the owners don't want their teams in the playoffs unless they have a chance at winning the cup. The cost to the owners outweighs the revenues of the playoff games. Most players have huge bonuses in their contracts for every game they play outside the regular season. Most owners don't want to pay this. As far the Leafs go, there is no incentive for them to make the playoffs. They sell out every game whether they put a good product on the ice or not. Even if by some miracle they did make the playooffs. How far would they go? One round = 3 home games. Whats the point. They will never put together a team that has a chance of winningthe cup. It doesn't make good business sense for them. Where else in the world can you have one of the most profitable sports franchise and yet have a product that is consistently at the bottom of their sport.

Stop supporting the Leafs and watch how fast the owners wake up and start giving us what we deserve.....
