Loved Cherry's tirade...somethin I've been sayin for couple years....NO ONTARIO PLAYERS WTF!! We are suppose to be Canada's team with very little Canadians or more importantly Ontario players. Complete joke.

Well, they don't exactly have an embarassment of riches as far as player talent goes..not as though they can just go out and ask Jeff Carter to play here..I suspect if there were better players from Ontario available, we'd have them. Don Cherry loses his mind at times...

personally, burke needs to go,
the guy says he doesn't like long contracts, over paying for players and wants phyical players
then he does and sign kommie for 4 years with a no movement, connie with a no movement, makes no play of nathan horton last year or david booth (last year) or brown this year...

Better teams than the Leafs couldn't get him.. I think Cherry actually knows his stuff most of the time. But sometimes when he starts on his high-horse I get a little queasy... Do any Ontario guys even want to play here?? They know the circus..
he's always on his high horse, thats why i hate him... he sucked as a player, wasn't anything as a coach
as for playing in toronto, i think the media makes it into something bigger than it is. Montreal, New york, detriot, vancouver all have high expectations as well.
nobody ever talked about the 'pressure' 10 years ago when we were always in the playoffs... its just another brian burke excuse
i konw peca was happy to play here back in the day. I would think that anyone who grew up cheering on the leafs would want to play for them. Apparently Nash had Toronto on his short list, so he seems to want to play here.
Leafs never have problems with scoring it's always the goals they let in. They can blame the goalies but I'd bet if our goalies went to any other team they'd have better stats. I don't know maybe it's just a Toronto mentality to just score first and play defense later when there's a 1 goal lead.
It's threads like this one, that make me glad that I stopped wasting my time on hockey back in '72.

Leafs were awesome 92 -94 and 99 - 04 recent eras. Poor direction/mangement at the top has always been the death blow of this team. Here in Ontario we have had most of the best players overall in the world and can't find any for our team? How blind is that? We are the centre of the universe so they say...wtf Brian Burke? This is Canada's team....we deserve so much more. Where's Wendel and Gilmour...Curtis...?

The salary cap era exposes a poor managed team. The last decent Leaf to be drafted?? Wendel? No farm team help what so ever.
When Burke took over, it really was a fresh start, he can't spend a fortune trying to fix the problem of the previous management caused. Hence why he took a gamble with the Kessel trade.
Those past playoff teams survived by signing players whose shelf life was only a couple of years, and playing a Senator team that had no back bone......

Yup.. Easy to say get good Ontario players..unfortunately, when you have no draft picks..and nothing to trade..you take the best you can get. In the words of Cliff Fletcher, "Draft shmaft.."
Cherry knows hockey? How well did his team do in the NHL?
Give me Howie Meeker any day of the week.
He knows his hockey and used the skill to teach kids how to play.
Leafs were mediocre in 92-94 & 99-04. But the FANS have the attention span of a top ten hit.
I'm sure he plays to the crowd though and knows more than he lets on.

Correction: I WAS a fan. Even attended the naming of Team Canada Drive, in Brampton, when I was a kid. Even meeting The Greats, in person, didn't bring me back.
