You know, his coaching record was something like 123-68-21..like, most coaches would kill for a record like that! I think Gainey figures he's constructed a Stanley Cup winner and Carbonneau can't get it out of them. Not sure I agree.. If I were a Habs fan, I'd be a little afraid of where they're going now..
As long as Kovalev doesn't have a contract or wasn't traded he isn't going to play hard for anyone especially Gainey. Gainy did nothing at deadline time to right the sinking problem ridden ship. Having a disfunctional unsigned player as your top guy is a recipe for failure.

As much as he's a curmudgeon, Don Cherry is right mostly..Kovalev is a coach killer! Ah well..we'll see how it goes from here.

I've always thought that you can really tell if a player is a true star player based on how they play when they are losing. Its easy to appear like 'tha man' when your winning but its guys like Kovalev that take their ball and go home when things don't go their way. I can't stand that type of player and as a GM would avoid them like the plague.
Having said that if Guy Carbeneau was half as smug in the dressingroom as he was behind the bench I can understand why players wouldn't like the guy.

Yeah, just read on TSN that the players felt "distant" from the coach..apparently he wouldn't talk to them and wanted to avoid confrontation. Maybe Gainey will pull off a Lamoriello and get them to the finals..interesting to watch.

Kaberle, Komisarek, Schenn, Exelby, Orr, Beauchemin, MVR, Hagman, Stralman, etc.
Not to mention Toskala is healthy and we just signed Gustavsson... we are going to end up in 6/7th.

Atleast we got away from the old timers team... I am looking forward to seeing the new young blood this year. Even if they suck, they are still the leafs, I will still cheer them on... Being a leaf fan means you expect very little so anything that turns out well is just a bonus anyway!
