LMAO@ Ducati 1199's dyno number

I've owned 6 GSX-R 1000s. I currently own three of them - all in the 200hp range. I've yet to have a major component fail, other than my throttle hand.

.

I'm all to familiar with the failed throttle bodies on my 2004 GSXR600 and 750 thanks!
My 2003 GSXR1000 left me stranded with a cam position sensor problem with less than 10000km.
Should I even mention my TL1000?
Had a 2007 GSXR1000, but just for a year.

I'm also all too familiar with Suzuki car quality....go look at any quality survey and you will notice they are near the bottom of the list. During my first trip to the Suzuki plant near London (now called Nummi) a few years back, when they only made Suzuki cars, I was shocked that they didn't even have a single Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).

.....with the big numbers and world-beating claims that they've always made, they should have been leaving my old scow in the dust for the last 5 years but they don't. Thats my point. This post is about Ducati once again making a laughable claim, supposedly making more HP than a ZX14 or busa, I'd bet. I'm still waiting for an owner of a 70 000 kms Ducati that will whip my GSXR in a "pose-down" to post the Tim Horton's location we're going to meet at! hahaha!

Can you link to some of these claims?

So far all I see is a 195bhp claim, which, judging by the dyno numbers, is perfectly correct.

Ducati clearly makes the biggest numbers... if you are counting the amount of girls that will sit on the back.

a quick google seach showed a few sites saying that the bhp for a zx14 is 190hp which is not really suprising. To hear that a Ducati Twin makes more hp than a zx14 makes me laugh. Like I said before, I'd love to see a Ducati drop the hammer against a busa or 14 with all that hp. hahaha!

I beat many Busas and ZX14's with my Ducati. A few times I actually had to slow down a bit and let them catch up so their feelings wouldnt get hurt. But in all fairness, it's not hard to beat a Gixxer since most of them break down before the race is over, but ZX14's are a little bit of challenge, so lets give credit where credit is due. :)

So my buddy who owns an 1198 and lives in Niagara has a non-current Ducati and a Ducati Dealer nearby and he's perpetuating an old stereotype of reliability issues with Ducatis? Um, no. His 1198 is less than a year old, garage kept and it didn't start when he washed it! After what he paid, its a frigin joke and he took it as such. He's been around enough to know that Ducatis are not the pinnacle of reliability. He owns the bike because it makes tractor-like torque, good for him. His closest Ducati Dealer is in Oakville fer chissakes!, he's semi-retired and it doesn't bother him that much for now but as that thing ages I bet it'll get to be an issue if something as simple as washing his bike is a problem when its still almost new. Hahaha.
With the charging system failures that you keep seeing on different makes of bikes, you should be looking very closely at the connections at your rect/reg and stator wires. These connections have a hard job because they live with heat and a fair amount of current. The tiniest bit of a problem with thiis connection will cause our "light duty" charging systems to fail. Something to check on a few times a year. Could still be a lack of maintenance issue there.
I thought you were making a specific point about GSXRs stranding you?, you didn't mention that Hondas were causing you grief too. Strange to have the same problems with different brands but the GSXR is the one that's junk.

Bad luck only . I have owned 15 different ducatis, starting with an 89 851 the last being a 1098S. Only problem I had was rectifier quit on a 97 916. They all got ridden a lot and a few were tracked many times as well.

.......in my opinion your Panhead is a step up, probably gave up only a few miles an hour up top! Haha! I gotta give your harley credit for being what is and not claiming to be something more. That 916 though, brings back memories of weight and displacement advantages given to it in wsb back in the 90's so it could be competitive. Dorna made me think of NASCAR! Haha!

That mv is sweet! I saw the half million dollar model at the deeley museum in Vancouver. If i remember correctly, harley owns mv? That would mean your bikes are one and the same!

Dem dere Gixxers are dead reliable man........

QEW Niagara rush hour.

Horsepower sells.

Torque wins races.

And Then they started penalizing it and the 996,998,999,1098,1198 and it kept winning

It seems to me that most people commenting on the Ducati's reliability are going by "what they heard". I own two Ducati's, one has 16,500km on it and 0 problems, the other has 20,000 km on it, same issue twice with an aftermarket clutch spring, a $60.00 part, not ducati's fault. Maybe I am just lucky.

Triple9 (aka Tommy) has a 1098 with about 70,000 km on it.I know of an old Monster in KW that has the same mileage with the original shims in it.But haters love to hate.Lol.

I also have 2 Ducs

ST3 has approx. 58,000km, Never had an issue with this one
916 has approx. 47,000km, changed a fuel pump relay, thats the only issue.

Regular oil change, valve and belts at scheduled intervals.

All I hear is blah blah blah blah blah.. None of them could stand up to my Fizzer

164.4whp.....claimed 195bhp, haha, yeah righthttp://www.motorcycle-usa.com/12/1453/4/Motorcycle-Blog-Post/Ducati-1199-Panigale-Horsepower-Torque.aspxstill ~20whp down from the King!

There's word going around that BMW's oldest trick in the book YouTube video is a fake. I guess Ducati doesn't sit alone when it comes to exaggerating. I ride a RSV4 so I personally like the Aprillia version of the video.
