Like watches? post a pic of your watch, and a pic of your favourite watch

Always worth it if you like it...

but

it might not be if you are looking to sell it in the future. Its one of the entry watch from the Montblanc product line, it likly will not appreciate in value

^MK XVI C:

Very very few watches appreciate in value. Omega comes to mind, but it's a false appreciation, as they simply raise their retail prices to become more exclusive, and the used prices follow suit.

I really like the Montblanc designs, but I think it's a plain ETA movement inside with some decoration. You don't hear too much talk about them if that's an indication of anything.

For my money, I'd get something a bit more iconic like an Omega

I don't think Omega is a top teir watch company. They had great product placement in James bond.... but I don't consider them to be in the same class as the Rolex/Cartier/Brietlings of the world.

Of course, none of those brands are world class but are affordable by mortals.

I'd have to agree. I've looked at the Omegas and don't really like them. Don't see any quality in the build and it is a really heavy watch

Probably the wrong thread ask in but, does anyone make a watch with thermometer that goes bellow -10?

With Omega's current pricing (going up and up every year btw) they really are competing on a similar level as Breitling. If anything, one could say that Breitling is simply a nicely finished casing with a run of the mill ETA movement. Omega at least modifies the regular ETA movements for their watches (Co-Axial escapement), though how much is modified is up for debate.

Omega used to be the budget luxury watchmaker, but not anymore. The Swatch Group has priced and marketed the Omega line on a similar level as Breitling and the like. The case designs and movements are certainly worth it.

I'll leave Rolex and Cartier out of the discussion as they have their own unique merits.

btw I'm not even a big Omega fan outside of the Speedmaster Moon watch

I went to St Thomas & St Maarten on a cruise in March. A watch-lovers paradise. The 200k diamond crusted watches on open display were some serious eye candy. Picked up a Tissot there for a great price. Depending on your bankroll, you could have you trip (about 5k) paid for with the savings on watches & jewelry.

Went on a Celebrity cruise over the holidays and we stopped in St. Thomas and St. Martin. Watch lovers paradise is an understatement, although I did prefer St. Martin (Dutch Side) for the selection. I had planned to drop some coin on one nice watch (Oris Diver's) but decided to get a few modestly priced watches to build up my collection instead. Ended up with a 2009 Tissot Moto GP LE, ESQ, Invicta Pro Diver and a Guess watch (Cheap I know, but I liked the style and the guy knocked almost 60% off the price!).

Did u get a certificate or call the watch Co. to verify those watches? :D

well....Omega's claim to fame was that their manual-wind chrono held up the best against the best when Nasa needed a piece that would withstand extremes.....and they've rightfully rode that prop for decades

Breitlings imo are crazy overpriced for what the guts of the watch are.....you could get 3 comparable quality pieces for the same price and then some....although I'd likely kill for a grey Skyracer with black subdials

never been a Rolex fan cause I love chronographs...and the Daytona is a Zenith movement...so I'd rather have 2-3 for 1 in that scenario

Cartier is all about precious metals to justify the insane cost......and aside from the odd piece they're hideous

I had this dude in the GTA named Shane Ede do some work for me on a Russian Mig Fighter clock I put in the dash of my Morgan +8.....and this guy is beyond experienced.....he's a trip.....knows more about what ticks then you'd ever dream of....if you sent your diamond encrusted Daytona in for service at the jeweler to the tune of thousands...he's probably the guy doing the job for hundreds

your tune on world class time pieces would be debated

lotsa real good pieces out there....world class....and you could have a collection at the same price of ONE of the popular over-priced pieces

Oh I am well aware that none of those brands are the top of the line when it comes to guts and quality.

Debating watch brands is something that definately isn't going to get settled here but my point about omegas is that their price point does not match their "prestige" if you will, in the general populace.
I believe that people buy rolexs/cartiers/brietlings not so much for the guts but for the social status. I don't consider Omegas to be a part of that class (socially), but are priced similarly. I consider these brands to be more along the lines of "jewlery" vs "high quality watch"
Its the same reason why people would buy LV, its not cause they are the most high quality of the luxury brands, but its the recognition they pay for.

So help educate us great unwashed masses, if you had a few bucks , not Rolex size dollars, whats a good buy in quality watch these days.

Omega is pricing them selves out of the market, as a dealer I just received new pricing for after sales services effective Jan 1
BASIC SERVICE ON AUTOMATICS WENT UP ALMOST $100 on top of the already extortion price, a battery service is basically $150.
Not to mention we have been informed they are cutting our margins., Out of the roughly 6 million watches coming out of Switzerland a year , yes you read right. it is estimated 85-90 is ETA based , everyday I see in house calibers that have ETA stamps on the movements.

Re moon watch holding up better then the others and that is why NASA picked them, BS . it is commonly known in the industry OMEGA
paid for that privilege, Heuer and Breitling had been approached first.

For the price, I'm a fan of Hamilton (typically in the $1500+ price range).

my next purchase will likely be something from Ball (Fireman Ionosphere)....and/or possibly Sinn (Arktis)....and every time I see a Fortis Flieger go up for sale I'm really tempted

I'm a fan of buying "previously loved" pieces that are mint and basically 50% of brand new retail....and the Ball or Sinn chronos I see for sale in mint condition are usually going for something between $1200-$1600

got a Tag Monaco McQueen for $1900 and an Oris Artelier for $1000....so $2900 (what I paid for my Omega Speedmaster Date brand new) for the 2 versus over $7k retail...not buying new again

lurk the B&S forums at watchuseek it'll give you a grasp of the previously loved market and what things typically sell for forums.watchuseek.com/
