Like watches? post a pic of your watch, and a pic of your favourite watch

I remember these. I think my sisters may have had some. If they did, there's probably one in my basement somewhere (my mother doesn't throw out anything from our childhood).
Haha see guys, I'm not on drugs. But I did read what I typed & lol'd. But in my defence, I hadn't slept in 24 hours when I wrote that.

I get that a lot of engineering goes into some watches...but holy crap. 20k?!

Wearing this daily cause it's small and doesn't bother me while I work and I can bang it against stuff and not worry about scratching it. Suppose to be good for you as it's magnetic.

My fav watch my sister gave me. It's a nice thick Adidas watch, like this one:

I'd love a Movado, maybe I'll luck out at an auction:)

Same reason a Veyron costs over a million. The engineering involved in building these complicated almost one-off movements is insane, same with the attention to detail.

Pretty much this. Those watches are a mechanical wonder with EXTREME attention to detail and they have some VERY VERY unique tech behind them. Tech that will most likely be TIMELESS unlike most electronics (TV's etc.) To me, I'd rather pay for something that's a wonder in engineering vs a regular watch with a bunch of huge diamonds on them. But those are waaaaaaaaaay out of my price range so I can't afford it anyways. You're paying for the craftsmanship and probably partially for the name. Except in those cases it's the name of a specific small group of watchmakers VS a BRAND NAME which seems a lot less meaningful. It's kind of like buying art by a specific artist. Lots of paintings out there are $65K or more.

I like the engineering aspect too but you still have to remember that even the best automatic watch isn't going to be as accurate as the 10$ casio quartz from Japan :)

For my imaginary bag of money though, I'd skip the extravagant boutique manufacturers and go for a Patek, there is something incredibly elegant and timeless about their watches.

And yes, clothing companies for the most part don't make watches (I can't think of one that does off hand at least), they're all made in China (even if it says Swiss Made, the rules are loose) by some mass manufacturer and have their name placed on it. At the end of the day though, barely anyone will notice who actually makes your watch, or how expensive it is, or even that you're wearing a watch to begin with.

I would admit I would pay a good bit for a watch if it were automatic and do not run on electronics to function, because those do take time and patience to assemble. But would I pay a handsome price for a battery operated watch? Not really. It takes more effort to make a watch with gears and bezel. Accuracy is also important to me.

This is my everyday watch and I've had it for 9yrs. Bought it after I graduated from High school. Never replaced a battery and accurate to +/- 20sec per year. It still runs to this day and the face only have 1 scratch.

I have this one for hiking and exploring. Bought it after graduating from University. I am highly disappointed in this watch. The value plus the warranty service were not too great. It is not as accurate and the temperature reading is not accurate.

Bought this one after I got my 1st job. I love the fact that its a perpetual calender. Very accurate and very reliable. Love the fact that it automatically shuts down when there is no light. When u wear a long sleeve in the winter it will go to sleep when covered and when exposed to light, it will shuffle around and accurately go back to the present time. Love to see that. Plus I don't have to fiddle with dates for leap year and 30day months. Love it. Its titanium and never needs a battery.

I'll buy my next watch when I get a really decent job or get married :). Next one should be an automatic swiss watch :)
Sorry, I would not wear any watch that is designed by clothes manufacturers[/QUOTE]

Thanks for the feedback, but I think these days its very difficult to know who makes what. Having lived in Germany for some time I have gotten to know Hugo Boss as a pretty smart and successful company. Just fyi their watches are designed and made by Movado. In any case I wear it because my daughter gave it to me, probably would not have been my first choice either.

Didn't mean that in a offensive way

Those temperature guage watches are very good for measuring your body temperature but not too good otherwise unless you take them off.

Here is a small selection of my horological collection... including my rebuilding of my Grandfather's Timex Balance Wheel Quartz (made one good one from three donors), my cat wearing some soviet vintage iron, and some others from my collection.

Its not even good at that too!
But in case u're wondering, I did take it off my wrist for 15mins before I take the reading.

I would've gotten this one if it weren't too big for my wrist. It gives a graph of changes in barometric press. and altitude.

Looking to get a gift for someone, with that being said what's a nice watch around 1000-2000$ price range?

Actually if you google just that.... watches $1000 - $2000

you will get a lot of matches to read through.

Taste is subjective but this is nice @ $1550....

My brother has an Oris and surprisingly its not that accurate. Plus leave it a day or 2 and it needs winding up. If u like the maintenance factor then go for it. The one above looks really nice tho

That one is an automatic mechanical with a fairly long reserve.

I have never owned one so to tell the truth I couldn't comment on their accuracy.

Tag IMO are the most accurate watches.

Again, something like this is so subjective it's hard to buy for someone else unless you have a general idea what they like.
