I'd be insulted if they tried to pull a "Mr. Big" sting on me... like... how dumb do you think I am?
Remember Mr. Nuttall and Ms. Korody?
... seems to be a theme with "Mr. Big"... STUPID suspects... a special kinda stupid

Suspended with pay. Violence/weapons at protest out front of the temple last night. Arrests made. Police assaulted.

i/7/21, Chicago Tribune; "An Elgin police detective has been placed on paid leave after being charged with DUI over the weekend, authorities said.

Not just here....
There is enough evidence on that tape that she tried to pervert justice for personal gain that she shpuld be terminated with cause for that alone. The dui is just icing on the #%@$ sandwich.

In the US this sort of thing tends to make its way through the courts faster, but I can't find any updates on it with a simple search.

Hamilton police release report that there was an exchange of gunfire with an armed suspect and suspect and cop are in hospital. Suspect dies. SIU gets involved and says suspect was unarmed and two cops were shooting. Suspect is black. Not looking good for the blue line.

Just the fact that the Sweep It Under the rug boys are commenting about a active investigation suggests that a couple of somebodies are going under the blue bus.
Very unlike SIU's normal M.O.

This seems like an issue where body cams would clear things up very quickly.
If Erixon answer the door with a replica firearm, cops are pretty much cleared.
If they just pulled an orange nerf gun out of the closet after the fact.... not so much.

A manager I worked under had his cousin shot to death by the OPP forty ish years ago in Kingston. Late night no actual witnesses. Cop car followed the victim into the driveway and shot him.

The area was swarmed with officers that eventually found something that could have appeared as a weapon. Cop cleared.

Of his cousin, the manager said his biggest fault was being a wimp.

Of the cop, it came out he was many times as likely to unholster his sidearm than other officers.

Gun hysteria by the Liberals could be a factor. If a person imagines they saw a lethal weapon and hears a car backfire they make a gun call to the police. Where exactly was the replica found, right at the door or in a toy box in a bedroom?

When I went to Sheridan, back in '84, the Peel Tactical Response Team got called to campus for an armed individual sighting. I was up in the top floor labs at the time, with a perfect view of the belly of a sniper on the roof, and overlooking the outer building where the armed person was supposed to be. One of the staff went out and pulled the fire alarm. When the suspect came out, along with everyone else, he got grabbed by the arm and slammed into the side of the building. Handcuffs were on him in seconds. He was searched and relieved of...

A pink plastic Luger sticker dart gun.

If anyone on staff had bothered to ask, pretty much any student could have told them that there was a rather large game of T.A.G. going on at the time.

T.A.G. = The Assassination Game

I was following this in a neighborhood watch group on Facebook as it was happening. Tons of commenters saying endless stream of cop cars heading to that direction as it was reported an officer was hit. Think the final count was 40 cop cars responded and lord knows how many ambulance/firetrucks. Sure leaves the rest of the city un attended when an officer is potentially injured.

'anyone remember that time at the Sheridan oakville campus police were called due to a person walking on campus with an "assault rifle"..?

Imagine being taken down at gunpoint for carrying a camera tripod to your photography class.. lol.

And the radio is full of (thin blue line gang union) ads about there not being enough cops and we need to hire more.

Eff those greedy mofos. From now on when you call 911, just end it with "and I think a cop's been shot"

Yee but not me. Injured cop means the rest of the city has no cops for at least an hour. Cop could have a nick and there are five other assault victims critical and all resources will go to the cop. When the cops got shot in Innisfil, they closed the 400 and blocked every ramp to expedite transfer. I've never heard of that happening for a citizen. Sadly, in that case, there was no need to rush, the dirtbag was successful in their attack.

I was in Port Credit years ago near the boat launch / salmon boat docks and a six pack of Peel cop cars came rushing in.
It turned out that a snit fest got some old timer to wave a pistol. It was a plastic toy but the response, I thought was appropriate. Brisk, firm and no nonsense. No brutality. I'm not sure if the guy had dementia or was just being a jerk but I don't think he was detained.

Police associations are again calling on feds to change bail. One of the minors in the studio shootout already has three concurrent firearm prohibitions. It boggles the mind that if you are caught violating a prohibition that you are eligible to be released. That should be an automatic incarceration. So simple.

Lots of finger pointing on bail (the problem is not just bail BTW) and repeat offenders, I really think the items below need to be fixed before just adding more laws...
  • Current jails in Ontario are full/over capacity so apparently judges are being lenient on bail as there is no place to put them.
  • Same with repeat offenders, no place to put them.
  • Of course some are also being lenient just on their view points.
  • The number of offenders walking on charter/speedy trial is way up as there is not enough capacity in the Ontario court system.
  • Police are frustrated with catch and release due to the above but also seem to drop the ball procedure wise far to often IMO, criminals released (not convicted) because they messed up.
Now other provinces have similar issues BUT Ontario has the power to fix the above HERE and no new laws are needed, just enforce the ones on the books now! Then tweak. There was tough talk on holding judges to task by the current Ontario government a while back, what happened to that, why are judges still being too lenient, I thought Dougie was fixing this?

Where is the needed increase in court capacity to stop charter walks? How does some new law fix that?

So some new law gets passed at whatever level how does that change any of the above, specially capacity issues, magic? FIFO jails, add one, release one? We see this with driving bans, why are they violating bail or bans and getting bail again? So which hardened criminal do we release to get them a bed?

Do we need better police training or at least some repercussions for screwing up evidence?

A family member is a criminal defence attorney (specializing in gun crimes. gangs, murders) and the stories of the utter incompetence of the courts, crown and police are shocking, her success rate is in the 80% range. Bail is all but a given. Both due mostly to the above points, new laws don;t fix that.

Then there is the greater discussion about the judicial system (justice is a bad description these days) rehabilitates to prevent recidivism.
