Re: RCMP taser 11 year old boy

The kid was wanted for a stabbing. If the kid was still armed with the weapon he used in the stabbing, taser use would have been a reasonable call.

If this was an adult or a very, freakishy large child, then yes...if he was armed then I can see how using a taser would be justified. If this was just a regular 80lb 11 year old (how much do 11 year olds weigh, anyway?) then I still don't think it was necessary. An untrained, sub 100lb, cranky 11 year old carrying a knife vs a trained, 200+ lb, armed police officer wearing a vest? I dunno, turbo. We treat children differently than adults in most other aspects of life....that's because they're still fairly vulnerable. I don't see why we should taser them on the same grounds as an adult. Freak circumstances notwithstanding of course.

Re: RCMP taser 11 year old boy

Whatever happened to a good old beat down? Why is tazing necessary? Especially with all the risk associated with it as of late. Especially with BC's poor history and obvious lack of training with the tool. Not like a full grown man shouldn't be able to sufficiently subdue and 11 year old. God damn are our LEOs become out of shape. Those mother ****ers should be athletes among us.

What are these risks?
do you have any solid evidence that they these risks outweigh those of a "beat down?"

The vest doesn't offer as much protection as you think. One shallow slash hitting the femoral artery in the upper leg can see an adult bleed out and lose consciousness within seconds, followed by death no more than two or three minutes after that. The only thing faster is a slash to the jugular.

Re: RCMP taser 11 year old boy

I'd take the tazer over being slashed in my jugular too.

Unless I had some quick clot, and then I'd have to think about it.

I might be able to scrounge some up for ya... We don't use it anymore, but we have a better replacement, the "combat gauze" basically is like a bandage in toilet roll formation impregnated with a non thermogenic hemostatic agent, so no burning to save the surrounding tissue, and it works crazy good! Stops pretty much any bleeding (and is great for when you nick your face shaving lol).
Tampons also work great for entry wounds.

Also, bullet proof vests are not knife proof as the force is applied in too little surface area when used in a stabbing form.

If you scrounge up some good styptic powder for me, I'll be in your debt. Those styptic pens are no good even when crushed into powder and the only stuff I've seen is formulated for pets :( The gauze would be a close second

Re: RCMP taser 11 year old boy

Tazers are a "no lethal" weapon. There are exceptions with health issues, so theres the risk. A punch in the face can be lethal as well.

What am i basing this claim on? People have died from both. Many more have walked away from both.

Where are you getting tazers are so dangerous?

"Less lethal"!!!

If your going to argue for something so strongly..... You may want to know what it is your talking about!

Sorry I missed my essay on the subject.

Tasers are marketed as non lethal. Of course the whole controversy is they have killed people.

At the same time how many people have died after being roughed up a bit in police custody?

I know what im talked about, your clearly not understanding it though.

Which one of you guys is subbing for dankie while he's banned?

Re: RCMP taser 11 year old boy

I'd taze him..it's my job, I'm going home at the end of the day. I'm not the one who stabbed someone else.. And if he came at me I'd shoot the little bastard. Where are all the Young Offenders Act people who think kids get off easy because they know they won't do more than 3 years??

And to think there are people like this who actually become cops....disgusting.

I know how you feel, but really, they aren't social workers, they're cops. If the police tell you to lie down on the ground, you lie down on the ground. If not, you're going to have a bad day. Life's tough..if you stab someone and run around armed with a knife, doesn't matter how old you are, you're going to be taken down. At the end of the day, the kid is unhurt and in custody, as well as the cops. That's a pretty good outcome I'd say. No offence Moreno, I know you're a good guy, but I think if you were a cop for 6 months, you'd feel the same way. It's a tough job and being touchy-feely doesn't always work.

Re: RCMP taser 11 year old boy

Right now we have the story the way the police would like us to have it. For all we know, the "stabee" (I hesitate to call him a "victim" until I know more about the incident) might have been trying to molest the kid and the kid defended himself by grabbing a kitchen knife.
On the other hand, the kid could have been jumped into a gang and "had to" kill some poor random guy in order to prove his... Whatever they want them to prove by killing random people..
Until we get more details on the story, we can only speculate.

York Region Police and OPP announce CRACKDOWN ON SPORTBIKES

Just one more thing to remind you that Ontario has turned into a Police state. What vehicles are doing ALL of the speeding on Ontario roads?........CARS! When is there ever a car doing 100km/h on a highway in this area? Any rider hauled into court with a ticket over the next while could use this as a defense as the police have a "pre-disposition" to view sportbikes as breaking the law and therefore Police are biased against them. This is called profiling and it is illegal. Its akin to announcing that they are going to target anyone driving a car with a V8 in it or driving Corvettes or whatever they choose.
