If you check out The Lockpicking Lawyer's Youtube channel, some time, you'll see how ridiculously easy many of those gun locks in police cars are to defeat. One, that American police use to secure AR-15 style rifles, can be defeated just by removing the magazine.

It's a Colt C8 rifle that is missing.

Yes. They want scarier looking firepower than the people they're theoretically employed to serve and protect.
Easier to steal than buy?

Actually I knew someone on the Peel tactical squad and he said the stuff in his trunk was extremely scary. Airport duty etc. He pulled a guy over for speeding on airport property and he looked like Robocop. The speeder thought it was a bit of overkill for speeding.

There was backlash when the OPP switched to black uniforms. When asked about the officers looking more intimidating now the then Chief (the POS Julian Fantino) was quoted as saying "I WANT my officers to BE intimidating."

He was, after all, a petty dictator. "Are you going to execute the disloyal one, or am I?"

IIRC it was the head of the OPP before Fantino (the fascist dog) that in his first speech told officers that police should treat the civilians that they interact like "clients" not like Al Capone. If it wasn't for that speeder, you'd be out of a job.
He lasted 6 months

Ont the bright side i think those are manufactured in London Ont.
They previously sported mini 14's a cheap and cheerful piece but i would not want to bet my life on one cycling properly in a life and death situation.
As I recall from my time in the forces half a lifetime ago, it had Mattel stamped on the plastics.

C4 maybe? That is a Colt Ar Carbine derivitive. Wouldn't a M4 be a machine gun?
They're all BASED off a Armalite AR10/15
Pretty sure Canadian cops use a Colt C7 or 8... what ever it is, it's a made in Canada Colt. I don't think US Colt makes ARs anymore, not since Sandy Hook (and the patent expired)

Wikipedia says most of our cops are using the C8. Barrie news tonight said it was a C8.
