This shouldn't be allowed to end with Theriault resigning from the force. He should have been fired after the conviction. His father should have been charged in trying to cover up the assault. Det. John Theriault, was at the scene of the crime to support his sons but did not alert his superiors to the incident so that it could be investigated.

Both father and son should have their police professional career/personal file reflect these charges. Plus, pension after retiring should be tied to years served and professional conduct.

Any and all police officer involved in reporting/paperwork should be investigated.

I can't disagree. Police, when they commit crimes against the Police Services Act, should not be allowed to just resign in order to avoid paying the price for those actions. And anyone who let people directly involved in the incident control the scene should in fact be investigated for misconduct, as they allowed the investigation to be tainted by those who would, ultimately, be the ones charged/convicted. This concept of "Courtesy" needs to go away, as the bastard child of a bygone era.

Another winner in the rcmp and expected footdragging from the force. He deserves due process but when a cop has prohibited weapons, that should be easy enough to apply psa charges next week and terminate.

Mane Monter was charged with one count of trafficking in persons, one count of forgery, one count of cruelty to animals and three counts of possession of a prohibited device.

The Criminal Code identifies prohibited devices as firearm silencers, extended magazines, or a firearm barrel less than 105 mm in length.

Investigators in York Region say they believe there are additional victims who have not yet come forward to authorities.

The RCMP says Mane Monter is suspended with pay.

“His duty status will be continually assessed and an internal Code of Conduct investigation remains active and on-going,” The RCMP said in a news release issued on Tuesday.

suspended with pay!
A politician needs the stones to amend the PSA to change that. That will unleash a hell of a pushback from unions and many police. The good cops would like it as that frees up more money for good cops but sadly there are many many cops that dont want this golden ticket to be taken away.

Cops stood outside the classroom for about 40 minutes while the shooter shot the children... Now admit that not breaching the door was "the wrong decision"

From reports they not only refused to enter, in fear of being shot at, they actively prevented parents from trying to rescue their kids, even tasing some poor guy. I can understand not wanting a bunch of parents being victims too but the entire situation is crazy.

I think there needs to be mental health examinations and reference checks before someone can buy a gun. But it's the US and at this point there are soo many weapons in criminal hands it would be unfair to strip normal citizens of theirs. The country is a train wreck.

It's pretty shocking that for something that happens so often, police either didnt have a plan, failed to execute it or the plan was wait as long as it takes for swat to show up (over 30 minutes in this case).

I cannot understand how the parents must feel....not only having to watch the people tasked with protecting them and their families mucking around outside, but preventing them from going in.

I also read that the responding officers went into the school to save THEIR OWN CHILDREN only! I understand it's a stressful situation. I understand it's dangerous, and I understand it may be your last day alive...

But that's what you signed up for. Not to sit around and look tough with your SWAT gear.

Shameful.

If only there were some good guys with guns there to counter the bad guy.... /s

From memory there was a school shooting in Broward not long ago that the armed security/cop that was guarding the school hid for an hour while the shooting was happening, pretty sure he was charged or sued for it. He got the nickname The Coward of Broward. I think the sheriff dept involved in this one is going to be answering for their incompetence and cowardice as well.

Here is the Uvalde police swat team
Uvalde is a town of 13,000... AND THEY HAVE A SWAT TEAM... and the Uvalde police force takes 40% of the towns budget.
The Uvalde swat team practiced active shooter scenarios... in the actual school where they had an active shooter.

Stopping parents from running into the school was the right thing to do... but then trying to stop the active shooter would have been the RIGHT thing...but here we are.
Today we have police spokesmen justifying their actions by saying '... but they could have been killed or injured."

I'm speechless.

To think a trained law enforcement officer, let alone a platoon of them would standby in fear knowing children were being held at gunpoint is something I can't fathom.

If this is true and they were cowards, I can't imagine the fear they will face every day for the rest of their lives.
