Re: Toronto Cop causes accident

I don't drive Black Creek regularly anymore... but is it normal for a cop to run a speed trap on an 80kph road solo?! You're just going to walk out in front of a car doing probably 100 and expect them to stop safely?

That's horrible, what kind of cop does that on a highway.. especially if people are going 80-100kmh .. he should never walk into a live lane like that!

By law, yes I believe this is correct. But the cop should not have walked out into traffic traveling 100+, unsafe for him and the drivers of the vehicles.

Corolla caused accident moreso . Police have the authority to stop traffic. It's the responsibility of the motorist to operate their motor vehicle safely. That zone is an 80. It's inclimate weather. And corollas following too close and not paying attention...
Guys, it's a 70 zone.

Check the sign as the camera drives by.

Maximum
80 km/h
BEGINS

The cop can stand wherever he feels is safe in the enforcement of his duties. The fact that the cars were going close to 100 is the problem, it's not the reason for their innocence!

"I'm going so damn fast it's unsafe for the police to stop me." good luck with that one!

Okay, so it's a 70 - that doesn't buy him anything. Cops normally have a strong sense of self-preservation, something I would argue this cop lacks. He is still generally expecting traffic to be doing at least 80, being where it is most people are still probably doing 100 anyway. "I'm going so damn fast it's unsafe for the police to stop me" is not very distant from "I would be safe as long as people aren't speeding too much". We have a crystal clear example of a driver failing to avoid an obstacle with a relatively low closing speed. Would they have avoided a completely stationary cop, if they were the one in front?

Considering the accident would not have occurred if he didn't walk out into moving traffic on a highway says he has poor judgement and should perhaps think about going to desk duties.

Re: Toronto Cop causes accident

well, on the positive note, anyone who gets a ticket probably wont see him in court.

That's how I beat my last speeding ticket on an 11b. Cop got smoked standing on the 407 before the trial.

There's nothing quite like having a little bit of involvement with the police to have your confidence in them cured...

OPP wants to be in politics now

http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1364915/opp-association-launches-election-ad-campaign

I'm seeing red here. It makes me want to vote for Hudak.

And of course, no OPP press release is complete without them telling us how they risk their lives for us every day. Never mind that your average construction worker is almost 30 times more likely to be hurt on the job than a cop. So sick of the propaganda and the greed of the police in Ontario.

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now

That's it. I'm voting for 'Bike Cop'. :D

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now

Unreal. I think the opp whine more than the gov't. Scared of wage freeze. Like the over 100k isn't enough.that folks is the epitome of sense of entitlement right there. I'd vote for Hudak now just because of this

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now

I so don't want to vote for Hudak. This so makes me want to vote for Hudak. :(

Blood is boiling over this today, so I called my friend that was previously working HR for a nearby Force. She says that there's confusion right now amongst her co-workers and they're wondering how this is going to turn out themselves. Then she proceeds to tell me that the municipal forces (Kingston, for example) are trying to defect to the OPP because the pay is so much higher and all they have to do is drive around on the rural roads and kick dead animals off the pavement or arrest the occassional drunk that puts himself into a corn field. Everyone on the local force knows the OPP are eating cake and they want their share.

Boiling.

LOL .... OPP in politics ... well that was the last chip the Ontarians have been anxiously waiting for.

It really makes you scratch your head about Ontario election.

One thing I don't get though ... Hudak said he will not touch police with his cuts, I have not read he would exclude from the pass OPP ... so what's the "love" for from OPP??? the bargaining agent as they like to call themselves in the piece .... LOL

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now

So sick of the police forces bending over the public when it comes to budget time.
No politician has the guts to cut their budget. Or else you're seen as not in favor of public safety.
Where does it stop? These guys have the ultimate racket. Untouchables. And they want to keep it that way.
Can't really blame them really it's a sweet deal.

Hamilton City council gave the local police a pretty good push back last contract according to the newspaper. Of course I don't remember any of the finer points except that the Chief could muster a pretty good pout on demand.

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now

Some of the posters in this thread are seemingly confused. It's the Association that represents the officers who work for the OPP who have put out the ad.....it's not the OPP....BIG difference. The Association is very similar to a union....so why wouldn't the association try to promote the best interests of it's membership?
Hopefully one ad campaign put out by the OPPA which highlights their opposition to Hudak isn't "enough" for you to vote for Hudak. You aren't voting against the officers remember. More importantly I'd hope you take a look at some of the US States where Hudak has taken much of his platform from (specifically regarding organised labour) and see what the quality of life is down there for the vast majority. Is that what you want?

Re: OPP wants to be in politics now

Association/Union whatever. The police forcce is in a unique position because it's public safety.
And you can't cut that. Any time a budget gets discussed, chime in some fear mongering. It's almost standard practice.
I'm not condoning throwing away any past agreements. But going forward things should at least be open for discussion.
