Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

The small amount of work they actually do eh?
Most cops (and I do know 2 retired from the TPS) will tell you most of what they do is drive around.
I'm not saying that is a lot of fun, it's probably boring as hell. But last time I looked, most of us are bored with our jobs. The difference with cops is at a moments notice they have to get it up and possibly deal with a very serious situation. No one said the job is easy and thus the pay scale and respect they are paid.
If a cop can't rise to situation with appropriate self-control then they are not right person for the job.
Is that unreasonable?
I am not talking about a mouthy drunk who is trying to get the cop to repond, I'm taking about the worst case scenario, a large group of sober citizens expressing their right to protest. That is the test.
To have our employees bash our heads and incarcerate us because they are pumped up? Many failed the test.

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

I hope everyone of you who are so critical of the police never need them and if you do they don't show up. Armchair quarterbacks.

That's a bit strange. I think employers are allowed to be critical of their employees. In fact, I think it's an essential part of the relationship. Every boss has the right to conduct a critical evaluation of the people that he or she employs. Next time my boss criticizes my performance, I'll say "I hope you never need me, and if you do, I won't show up!"

I think my boss will have a good laugh at that one.

They are paid to protect and SERVE. Serve the citizens. If they don't feel that kind of responsibility and accountability, then I sincerely hope they do stop showing up for work. They're in the wrong job.

This is one of those cartoon xtranormal.com videos someone in the Ottawa police department made about the backlash from Stacy Bonds video being released. Speaks volumes about how the cops think they should be allowed to treat their "employers".

Does it really speak "volumes"? Is that video an accurate representation of that police service? Fanning the flames?

yes

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

weak

Somebody(s) on the service made a spoof and we're all supposed to be up in arms.

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

You can be up in arms, or you can continue posting your usual nonsense, I really don't care.

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

I really don't care.

Then don't reply to this.

I'm seeing a common thread: I denounce a dozen drunk auto workers so I hate all auto workers:rolleyes:
Some cops make a spoof video and that "speaks volumes about how the cops think they should be allowed to treat their employers".

If there were good cops, there wouldn't be bad cops. It pays to remember that.

People look the other way everywhere. While I agree with you, it's not workable on the ground. Show me where in the world that works. That's a pretty high standard to hold anybody to. Serpico.

I think I missed something. Do you think it's a high standard to expect good police officers to report bad police officers?

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

The anti-police attitude here always reminds of the old joke:

A motorcyclist is riding by the zoo when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage.

Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her
inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The rider jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the rider brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter addressing the rider says, 'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I've seen a man do in my whole life.'

The rider replies, 'Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.'

The reporter says, 'Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page...
So, what do you do for a living?'

The rider replies, 'I'm a cop.'
The journalist leaves.

The following morning the rider buys the paper to see news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

POLIC OFFICER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

good cops are bad".

Is it all or nothing? Is my brother a bad person because he chooses his battles carefully? I'd like to see some of the clowns around here step into his shoes for awhile.

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

The anti-police attitude here

So you think the video of Stacy Bonds getting kneed and having her shirt and bra cut off while 3 other officers hold her down wile being arrested for public intoxication is clever CGI by the press? Warranted because she obviously must have done something off camera to warrant having her clothes ripped off her?

I for one don't think they're bad, and didn't say it. It's hard to testify against any organization that has the power and has shown the willingness to bring reprisals against you, making your life very difficult. I respect that, but it doesn't make it ok.
