Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

Ok let's. "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is." Yogi "Einstein" Berra

A son is doing his homework, and says to his dad, "What's the difference between theory and practice?"

His dad says, "Well, son, let me demonstrate."

He calls his wife into the room. "Dear, if a stranger offered you a million dollars to have sex with him, would you?"
She says, "Well, that's a lot of money, so I think I would."

He calls in his daughter. "Honey, if a stranger offered you a million dollars to have sex with him, would you?"
She says, "Well, sure I would. That's an awful lot of money."

He turns back to his son: "You see, in theory, we're millionaires. But in practice, we just live with a couple of whores."

"You see, in theory, we're millionaires. But in practice, we just live with a couple of whores."

:lmao: In theory I see World Superbikes on Main St. In practice.....

Is there a law against nuance that I'm not aware of? Why is it always one way or the other with some people. I've got anti police and pro police posts on this board. Call them as I see them. I find it refreshes:cool:

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

I hope everyone of you who are so critical of the police never need them and if you do they don't show up. Armchair quarterbacks.
so by your thinking. kenneth dean was convicted of murder. so if i needs a cops helps do you really think i want a killer to come to my help?

Call the military, maybe they can send Russell Williams. Or call the lovers hotline, maybe they can send Paul Bernardo.

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

The anti-police attitude here always reminds of the old joke:

A motorcyclist is riding by the zoo when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage.

Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her
inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The rider jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.

Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the rider brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A reporter has watched the whole event. The reporter addressing the rider says, 'Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I've seen a man do in my whole life.'

The rider replies, 'Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.'

The reporter says, 'Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, and tomorrow's paper will have this story on the front page...
So, what do you do for a living?'

The rider replies, 'I'm a cop.'
The journalist leaves.

The following morning the rider buys the paper to see news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

POLIC OFFICER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH

Awesome!

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

The anti-police attitude here

You really think so? Sure there are a few here that hate cops coming or going, but most of what I read here is an anti-bad police attitude, which is a good thing isn't it? Wouldn't it be better to root out that 3-4% (hopefully it's no more than that) of cops that don't have the right temperment for the job than having the rest of the force protect these guys and in doing so bring down the morale and what use to be a great reputation? I just fear that if the reputation of the TPS or for that matter the OPP or the RCMP gets any worse then the rank and file members of the force will permanently see the average citizen as "them and us", and that's not good.

I would suggest that there's always been a certain level of us v them between ctizens and authority. I think it's really getting ratcheted up in the last decade or so because of the internet where one video and subsequent chat can inflame millions. I didn't used to be like that.

Also it's been put forth by one of our more esteemed police boosters that for the safety of police every citizen must be viewed with suspicion and caution. For the vast majority of us law abiders that is troubling.

ps, yes I think it's heading toward permanent unless something drastic somehow happens.

Yes, there has always been a certain level of us/them and that's understandable , but remember when we were kids, Cops were a force for good. Great respect was paid to them and with that came leniency and on the spot judgements, usually in your favour. The police had discretion, they were allowed to judge the situation and respond. These days I see alot of "Charge everyone and see what shakes out" , that is troubling. I think of all the young recruits that in their 1st year on the street experience distrust, skepticism and hostility because of the action of a few bad cops before them, it's a viscous circle.
I don't have the answer but I know the answer is simple, we had an excellent system before, we can have it again.

I would generally tend to agree with you about the good old days but tip my head down to look over top of the rose coloured glasses lest I wow myself in a fit of nostalgia.

My answer? Good old fashioned manners and civility lessons right from childhood. Too much "I'm #1, F.U. entitlement hockey dad yada yada.......these days.

I agree, and those yahoo cops should be purged from their respective forces.

Yes I agree completely.

Re: Police State Canada 2010 and the G20 Summit

It's 2011. Time for some fresh beatdown videos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyZHWtcooJI&has_verified=1

"A St. Louis police officer working off-duty at a gas station is under investigation after this video of him macing and batoning one of the station's patrons on New Year's Eve surfaced. The officer has a history of excessive force. We can't see what happened before the altercation occurred, but the gas station owner says the off-duty officer is Dustin Ries, who has permission to work security for the gas station.
According to the owner, the individual who was on the end of the beating was clearly drunk and acting up and the man's friends and Ries escorted him out of the gas station. Why Ries decided to pull the young man out of the car, mace him, and then hit him with his baton seven times is also unclear. All we know is the person shooting the video hears the guy in the car tell Officer Ries to "shut up."
The witnesses who shot the video say there was unnecessary force, the gas station owner says the beating was justified because the man was holding on to the officer's ankles. The police are investigating Ries, who has to prior excessive force incidents in his record, both involving use of a baton and mace."

Read or watched?
I must have time on my hands cause I just watched them all. 1/3 to 1/2 of them are nothing more than local TV stations pumping up a minor incident. The rest might have some merit if proven in court.
Just because something is reported doesn't mean it is worth reporting, much less posting a link so others can waste their time on it. Please edit.
