Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

Hey guys (and gal)

I've been looking at salvage bikes in the US and thinking of building my own.

Whats all involved in brining it to Canada (track purpose only on a salvage title?) I'm assuming you don't have to do the RIV since not registering it? Just pay the duties and taxes on the Auction price?

Also getting it ready for the track. Whats the minimum tech specs? (wire tie everything and water instead of coolant? the basics? or anything else special/costly?)

There are some pretty sweet R6/R1 salvage bikes like this http://www.crashedtoys.com/ImageViewer.asp?StockNumber=704334

Is the "Cross plain" motor only the R1? and it started in 2009 and newer?

Import the bike as Parts Only.
Cost is like $75 plus taxes on whatever you paid for it. Can do all the paperwork online before bringing over, then claim at border.

Minimum spec on track depends on organizer. Most don't require full safety wiring.
Coolant out, water wetter or similar in.
Tires and brakes need good amounts left.
Headlights, tail lights turn signals, mirrors removed or taped completely.

Only the R1 (2009+) has the cross PLANE crank...

Sweet!

some of these bikes going for 900 bux! The R1 closed at 1100.

That doesn't sound like a lot. I'm assuming modern 600cc bike will have fully adjustable suspension and should be good enough to go to a track without putting any additional money into it. Does that sound correct?

none of the trackday providers require safety wiring AFAIK (its a ***** to do), water/water wetter/equivalent is a must, some require taped speedo's and zip tied or removed kick stands. $1100 for the R1 is insanely cheap. Import it as a parts bike and you don't need to deal with the RIV.

I wont even tell you what a 2008 CBR 1000RR just closed for.....ok I will $1450 damage to wind screen and handle bars. (located in TX)

yeah, saw it on there great deal for sure.

I started looking that route too but once u factor in everything buying something local with spares will prolly be a better bet. Just my opinion there are some killer deals out there if you are patient. As the racing gurus here told me spares are quite nice and a properly set up bike will save u a bit just on shocks and springs. Then add race bodywork and such and u may r think the plan.

Just going thru some parts, I will give you, full spare set of bodywork, spare fuel tank, set of wheels and rotors with rains mounted plus another set of rains, clutch and throttle cables, footpegs, another set of rotors, rear shock, fork springs, engine covers, triple clamp and lh and rh handlebars with switches, 2 frt calipers, rear caliper and master, 2 sets of chain and sprockets, dynojet kit, another seat, kickstand, axles, throttle tube, another set of handlebars a rear swing arm, cushdrive, plus a bunch of other little parts. I left the price out but price out those parts and see where u stand. Plus it's always nice to have extras at the track for a quick fix, especially if you go down early in the day.

we are doing grand bend on June.1 if your interested, we can arrange rides/carpool/trailers

Not sure if I will have a suit by June 1. I will see what I can do. I would really love to go. Would need some help changing the gsxr over...

Welcome to the sickness!
Glad you had tons of fun and enjoyed yourself.
Did you rent your suit or borrow one for your track day, or do you have your own 2 piece zip-together?

Yeah, Shannonville is a long ways, but it will be a blast... Have fun at Grand Bend!!! Going to take your street bike and tape it all up or see about buying a bike beforehand?

I rented the suit and everything from FAST. Wanted to make sure I liked it first before buying anything! Will take the street bike for a while until I can find a track bike...

Perfect just trade me even track SV (never been down, just driven to church on Sunday) for street GSXR. I am not even looking for any extra money :). Then you dont have to worry about getting her scratched up.

Nice try Steve... but I love my GSXR. Trade ya for the Ducati though...lol, just kidding!

Oh and gsxr girl, I'll up scuba Steve's sv650 and offer up a sweet zx6 track bike ... Straight up trade for ur bike ... I may even give u some lessons ;) lol

hehe...nice try, no thanks ;)

And prepping street bike for the track should take all of 10 mins ... I'm sure someone will offer to help ... Maybe jer can take u to collingwood and show u how to do it. Lmao I'm sorry jer I couldn't resist. ;)
