Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

I can argue tires for new track riders from the other side, ie newbs need better tires than experts. Newbs are more likely to make mistakes. When mistakes are made there are usually two choices; stand it up and take your chances in the run off, or lean it as hard as you can to make the corner even though you're way wide already. If said newb plans to attempt the latter, which is usually the best choice because they likely aren't going fast enough that they've run out of lean angle, then they'll need all the traction and all the confidence in their tires that they can get.

On the other hand, on my old cbr f4 I was running BT010 street tires at TMP and SMP with no probs. I had the pegs raised 3" and back 2" and I was dragging the right through TMP turn 1 and SMP Nelson turn 5, so lots of traction there. Tires are a lot better than everyone thinks.

Run whatever street tire you currently like for this season, you'll be totally fine. Just make sure you drop the cold pressure to 30psi front and rear. Seriously. 35psi in the rear made me highside.

Dave, Randy, Dean.. Just wanted to say thanks again for all the help.
Hopefully all your efforts will make the final motor swap take a minimal amount of time on June 2.
Any of you have a jack stand that we could use to put under the motor and lift the frame off with?
If not, I'll see about figuring out something or another.

Again, thanks! You guys are amazing... owe you big time.

Said newb needed your advice beforehand.... ;)

yup, got a low profile 3 ton jack, not exatly portable, but we can throw it in your truck

true, generally the pace of new riders is slower, so your not really near that grip maximum, even with the less than smooth inputs of a new rider. Most people will stand the bike up thinking they are out of grip rather than low side. Trust your tires, they have more grip than you think. 2CT's seem to be popular, ran a free set I got, fine for the street, but I'd never use them on the track.

I hate michelins in any application. To me they have no feedback, always feel very skittery and vague.

The biggest problem with newer riders (street or track) is that they don't know the limits of the machine. They get spooked by lean angle long before it's near any sort of grip limit, which is of course a mental thing that is overcome with practice. So it usually goes like this; they think they're into the corner too hot, think they're already at max lean (which thy are for their mental limit), target fixation sets in but unfortunately not for the proper corner exit but for the outside run off, and that's it, that's now the destination. It's hard to overcome, hard to tell yourself to just lean it more. If they had fixated on corner exit instead, in all likelihood they would have made the turn and discovered a new self limit.

WTF is this?

Eeps! Calling Dr. Dave.. Dr. Dave, we have a bike for you....

Would be fun, but nah. 600 is the sweet spot for our tracks. Did you see the rearset adapter plates on the thing?? They're back far enough to be a drag bike.

Anytime brother. I just supervised to ensure safe work procedures while Dave and Randy did all the heavy work... Safety First!
Was good to get out for a spin after too - I was digging the old CB. The old girl can still rip for a 35 year old bike.

i love the goggles, that is just mint. You just need a sidecar
