Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

get the service manual, we can take her apart and get it back together to figure out whats wrong. Could be a fun project, you'll learn a lot. Doesn't look like its goign to get any more unbroken. In the mean time, you should slate the buell for track duty. To keep it on the track just ask them to put up those rails, like they do in bumper bowling for little kids. :)

LOL.... haha... very nice. :)

Yeah, if it's a bent shift fork we'd be dropping the engine and splitting the cases. No small job, but if we get on it now we can likely have it done by the time you're ready to remount.

but get the service manual first or your going to end up with some bolts left over and not know where they go, unless dave has has sufficient exp in reassembling an SV transmission

None (yet). Keeping a log book of what we do would be in order. Should be able to find the factory service manual online, but in some cases the Clymer or Haynes books are better because the factory manuals usually don't give all the steps.

the honda one is really good for pictures, but misses some of the low level steps. i.e. it'll say "disassemble X", how do I do that? had a clymer for my last bike, brutal pictures, but good steps. What year is your bike Tim? 650 or 1k?

Have the manual... not a problem that way...
Hopefully it's nothing too ugly (at least not any worse than me or Jer).

Bought the fiberglass, resin and bondo already.. now lets hope the internals aren't too bad.

Just looking at a few how-to's on splitting the cases and it's a huge job. Pretty much a complete engine tear down. Better off to find a used engine from a low km bike.

But we may be jumping the gun here.

Used engine = $1000+ right off the bat. Ouch.
Hoping to get by with much less... will call a few wrecker's later and see if they've got anything so I can get a feel for pricing... not wanting to jump the gun, but just to get an idea.

Yes. .I'm being pessimistic.. with the way my luck's been running (not including binning the bike) that's what's going to be needed.
*IF* it does need a new motor, would it make sense to part her out, get what I can and buy another bike for less then the additional cost of a new motor?

Again, this is all just hypothetical at the moment too.

Randy -- it's a 2003 SV1000.

I have no idea how easy it would be to sell parts from an SV1000, but my gut tells me you'd maybe sell half of what you want to sell and be stuck with a pile of parts.

There's a whole KW track thread, and no one told me about it?! wtf! :p Anyways, say hi next time you guys see me, I usually have a camera strapped to my neck...that's me at Bogie:

As for the SV engine issue, I'm sure you'd checked out Zdeno's right? Bike scrap yard central.

Tim..
One time offer ...
1200 bucks for the bike as it sits...
Expires tonight ?
Roll the dice buddy lol

One of us should jump on that bike and ride it around the court to see if it shifts while riding... NOT YOU TIM! Don't be crazy. haha

If you're free, you're more than welcome to.... let me know when... like on your way home tonight? hehehe... call me if you're popping by.
Bring an extra shift lever - the peg of the one on there now is at a crazy angle.

I'm completely not free from today at 4pm until Tuesday morning. LOL... Seriously, my weekend is jam packed.

I can give it a test, but I'd suggest having the shift lever put on there correctly first, could be as simple as that (not likely, but heres me getting your hopes up, only to end is a huge amount of dissapointment later, kind of like the track day. Too soon? )

looks good, hope to see you out at some of the track days!

I still need to get to 'bogie one of these days. Right now it's looking like next season (again...). I don't really want to bother taking my SV there. I'd rather wait until I get a bike that can actually get down the long straights the same day. haha

I have a CBR you could rent, just don't ask how much :)
