Kitchener/Waterloo area, c u next trackday riders thread!

June.12 is likely my next day, racer5 day

Boo to TMP. LOL

Nick, you still going to try for Calabogie on June 30th / July 1st?

I can try to get those days off, but it isn't looking good right now.

are you camping the night, or hotel?

I'm not from K/W but I'll be at tmp that day.

Sounds good man, were are you coming from?
coming by your self or with a buddy?

The plan is to camp at the track. We'll drive up Sunday. If we do ride both days we'll head home Wednesday.

Anyone signed up for Racer5 Stage 1 July 4th? I'm thinking of signing up and was wondering if anyone from the area is going down as well.

Grand bend raceway is the general favorite for distance vs. cost vs. track surface, but currently getting track time there for green group is hard. SOAR has slots open for faster riders, but likely will not be in your comfort zone. There are a few independant days there like Ducati owners club (sometimes they open it up to non-jap bikes) and the GTAM day that runs a green group. Just under a 2 hour drive from here. Days usually run $125 or so

I strongly suggest looking into the racer5 course that is run there. Fawaz runs it and is a great guy, likely right up your alley. check out racer5.ca

TMP most people are just meh about, but its close, just past hamilton, about 1.5h drive. Smaller track, quality of the track day depends on who is running it. Still a good time. $125/day, they are only running fri/sat/sun this year. check out http://www.torontomotorsportspark.com/raceway/motorcycle_lapping.html

Mosport, very high speed track, 2 hours, $240 ish/day, would suggest GBM or TMP as a beginner

Mosport - RDT - new track this year, jury is still out, haven't been to it yet

shannonville, 3 hour drive from here, $125-$160 for the day, great track, very technical, a bit rough, but a lot of fun.

Everyone had their first trackday once, so they know what its like starting out. Most trackdays offer a more experienced rider that will take you around and show you the lines, ask questions to, etc. You just have to ask. You'll learn more in 1 track day than an entire season of street riding.

Good suggestions Randy.
Missed a few things he might need to know:

Will need full leathers (one piece or a 2 piece with 360 zipper (not just the 8" wide one above the back of your hips), gauntlet gloves, proper boots and a one piece (not modular) full face helmet (Snell approved is a good idea). Not all track organizers require it, but a back protector is an excellent idea.

All of your bike's lights and reflectors need to be taped with green painter's tape. Coolant needs to be removed and refilled with distilled water (be sure to flush it 3 times to ensure all coolant is out).

Randy I don't understand how it takes you just under 2 hours to get to Grand Bend but only 3 hours to Shannonville. :p I get to Grand Bend from here in 1:20 every time, and Shannonville usually takes 3.5 hours. Either way, I agree that Grand Bend is the best value, TMP sucks, Mosport big track is a whole different beast, new RDT not sure yet...

1:50 if I drive from here here straight there, but then again remember your 20 min closer to start... and you have a lead foot :p

Are you taking the 401? I go through Tavistock then 83 to Dashwood and go around. I don't go through Grand Bend itself. I'm only 10 minutes closer. ;)

Finally edited and posted the video of Randy and I from Shannonville. Super fun session to end the day! Have a look.

Racer5 Stage 4 was very good, but the day was disappointing.
First couple sessions were slow paced, which I understand completely. Instructor had to separate my group into 2 separate "teams" after the second session. I ended up in the faster pairing, and got to have some fun with Steve (imagine a non-green incredible hulk). He was faster in a few sections and vice versa.

Broke for lunch, and of course, it started to rain... and rain.. and rain.. and didn't really stop for the rest of the day. Mike (my instructor) never got the chance to show me what I really wanted to learn, but he went through it very thoroughly with a verbal lesson.

Went out for about 5-6 laps in the rain (had almost stopped) and the track had giant puddles of standing water everywhere. I can deal with the back wheel squirming around in the dry, but in the wet.. umm... let's just say I didn't learn much about riding, but more about puckering of the nether regions...

On a side note -- sat on an MV Agusta F3-800 Dragster today. Man, that bike looks cool, but it is *TINY*.
