Icemageddon 2013

Power went off at 3am last night, just got power back now. 18 hours out. Gas fireplace worked to somewhat keep some heat in the house but our carbon monoxide detector was beeping on "pre-warn 1". Says when it gets to 4 you have to evacuate. It looks like ice may have builtup on the anti-animal screen on the top of the chimney. Once we got power back we opened the windows and cranked up the furnace and the detector quit beeping.

Woke up this morning to find my van blocking the sidewalk. Surprising part is I didn't park it that way and it actually slid 8' on my driveway before coming to a stop just before the road!

You know you've got ice problems when you can move a 3 ton vehicle on a mild (<10 degree) grade without the keys.

Power went out on Friday night, just got power this morning at 4am. Hardly slept at all because it was cold last night. I didn't went to families' house. Love my bed too much. In fact my car is stuck in my own driveway, can't go anywhere even if I needed to.
I heard trees crackling like a monster is walking thru, quite an experience.

F you weather!

power went out at about 4:30 pm yesterday....pulled out the the champion genny that I bought from costco last year. Its running the sump pump and a freezer. I'm at work now, only me and one other guy showed up out of 12 people scheduled to be here.

I just checked the hydro one website, all the service calls in my area have a completion time of 10 pm today. I may take a bigger genny from work and back feed the house through the dryer plug.

Fun with chainsaws for me today. Massive branches came down but thankfully not on my new garage. Landed nicely in between garage and house. Happy happy happy

I had xmas dinner at mine yesterday.....tourtiere on the bbq. Tres Canadiana!

Power came on at about 4:30 for me, I'm south of Bathurst and Clark. Just got back from driving around, looks like most people have power back in the area.

You must be very close to me (Clark/New Westminster). Lost power Saturday at 10:30, back on yesterday at 4:15,
We literally had our bags packed at the front door and were about to leave for a night at the Vaughan Hilton. Too far for me, but the only place that took dogs. They let us cancel because they had no problem giving away our reservation!

I was going to tough it out, we have a gas stove and working fireplace; wife wussed out! Where's that Canadian pioneer spirit?

We had a friend stay over as her power was out and her husband had to go down to their bakery at 4:00am to assess damage.

Was chopping ice on the driveway and heard, then watched in awe as huge branches came crashing down on our street.

I considered putting the trailer on the jeep and going out to grab all the fallen branches but decided it was still too icy to drive around yesterday

Heard on the news people are being treated in the hospital for smoke inhalation. Apparently they used their BBQs to heat their house, really??

Good thing they didn't poison themselves. I was using a propane lantern and was weary of CO

Power came back for me @ 4:00am ish (near Weston & 401)

Sweet, sweet internet

I didn't have any power issues until 6:00pm last night, just as my brother and his family were heading back to their own house that had power restored. The power came back up at 11:00pm last night.

Wow I must of been really lucky. Not even a second of power loss. No one I know either from Brampton to Mississauga. I'm in a new subdivision so I think that has something to do with it

No trees?

I'm in an area full of trees and still no power outages.
Weird. We got hammered hard. My street is still without power, although all wires on the street are fine. My parents' street looks like a war zone, but they got power back at 3:30am.

Couple of flickers here and there, i think we lost power for a grand total of 30 min.

Weird as sometimes we loose power when nothing else is happening. I'd just come home from work to find my surround sound off (thats my tell tale that power went out)

World is upside down, everything seems counter intuitive. Riding a roller coaster of emotions just skimming this thread. Luckily I'm in a small unaffected zone with minimal power loss( minutes). I can't really explain it but I'll try. I'll need graph paper, flow chart, sharp pencil and hand held abacus.

Real weird.. 1km down Lake Shore and 500m up from here, street lights were down. Had buckets next to the sump pit just in case.
